Oscar Pistorius
Re: Oscar Pistorius
He killed, therefore deserves jail.
Say 25 years.
What do you think??
All in all - sad story for both of them.

Yikes.
I dunno. I live in a fairly multi-racial, multi-class neighbourhood and I feel perfectly safe. OP was living in a fairly wealthy community, distant from poor people, in a big secure mansion. His paranoia about intruders and his penchant for guns and ammunition seems more to be a result of what was going on in his head than a rational response to surroundings.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
^^ the parallels are obvious, aren't they?
Re: Oscar Pistorius
Is there such a thing as a true life sentence in SA? I heard like in Australia a life sentence is like 20 years tops. Here in the US along with the death penalty we hand out 150+ year sentences in the off chance that some medical breakthrough happens that allows people to live forever and of course murderers would have access to that. But if you’re really evil but don’t qualify for a death sentence we also have life without the possibility of parole.
It’s important to have options.

wow.
This dude was really angry.
It will be a textbook case of he's always been like this but no one came forward and/or did anything about it...
Either that or the glue huffing got the better of him.

npr said he shot her in bed, she ran into the bathroom covering her head with her hands, and he fired three more times through the door killing her.
....?
What the hell can happen on Valentines day morning with this girl, in bed! that would make you want to kill her? ffs

For every hot chick on the planet there's at least one guy who is sick of her shit.
Doesn't justify murder though.
Bath salts?

Re: Oscar Pistorius
i guess i really wasnt thinking that, what makes it a tragedy+ for me is the loss of potential, that with all she had going and a law degree, there was the distinct possibility she would transcend her 'gifts' and do something great...not argueingbeats me wrote:But I also think it’s fair to say that when somebody is attractive and also intelligent and doing something meaningful with their life we tend to elevate them as if to say “You so didn’t need to go to that level. Life for you would be cake just based on your looks.” So it’s like a tragedy+.

This girl was no bimb. Maybe an over achiever with no soul at worst. Who knows. Fact is, she's hella smart, hot and well out of our league, lol. She was also cool enough to date a guy with no feet from the shins down. Mmm, maybe she's some kinda "gold-digging amputee star fucker". I saw a list of accomplishments and it was pretty well packed with hard working cool stuff.

Same here. I think those documentaries only show the really bad parts of SA. It's an amazing and beautiful place to live.quiet_ou wrote:Forge. wrote:after having seen a few documentaries about SA it looks like a pretty scary place to live..... having a loaded gun under his pillow and a machine gun near the window shows that he was pretty jumpy (bad pun?) already, so I guess it could have been just a really tragic accident...quiet_ou wrote:A big story down here in SA, coming hot on the heels of the rape and murder of Anene Booysen. Of course the crime is a problem, and you are always "watching your back" but it's not as bad as they make it out to be. Well depending on which area you're in.
Apparently Oscar had a really bad temper. There was also a story of him accidentally firing a weapon in a restaurant. Let me try find that link.
Re: Oscar Pistorius
oh yeah.. they make it look like some kind of post apocalyptic wasteland... those housing blocks where gangs move in and charge their own rent and the only security is private vigilantes, and those 'red ants' or whatever they were called.. Jo-berg looked really intenseI.Am.Sean wrote: I think those documentaries only show the really bad parts of SA..
but yeah, of course they are only going to show those parts though, it makes much better telly.
I don't think Australia would look too great in docos about some towns out in the desert - but still, guns aren't too prolific here
this Louis Theroux one is a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZJ1w9-Umcw
