Does Live 5 contain any presets?

Post by binaryzero » Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:00 pm

I just upgraded to Live 5.

I can't find presets anywhere. I have older presets for Ableton 4.x, they used to be in:

C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 4.x\Factory Presets

That folder setup doesn't seem to exist in the new version and now there is a folder under:

C:\My Documents\Ableton\Library\Presets

This preset folder has folders set up for each device, however there are no presets in any of these new folders.

I can bring presets over from the earlier version of ableton, though I was wondering if there are any new presets availible (in particular for the new devices.)

Also I don't see any tutorial files in the new v5 download.

What's going on?

Hi binaryzero,

Live 5.0.1 comes 3 Live Packs containing several presets and lessons.
Normally Live 5.0.1 should install them automatically when running for the first time.

Please locate the 3 Live packs in your 5.0.1 installation.
"C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 5.0.1\Resources\DefaultPackages".
In this folder you should found 3 files: Essential.alp, Lessons.alp & Operator.alp. If you started Live 5.0.1 at least once they also should have the colored icon.

You can install each package manually using the "Install Live Pack ..." entry from the File menu within Live or by simply double-clicking the packages.

regards,
Alex

I have the same problem (see No Preset thread below)

I'm using OSX and when I downloaded 5.0.1 all I have in the Ableton folder is the actual application and a docs folder with only the user manual pdf. I have no presets showing up at all.

Grrr!

Scat, in a finder window, browse to <user>/library/application support/ableton

There should be a new folder there called "library"

In there you'll find clips, lessons, presets, etc.... if you upgraded from L4, all your old presets will be in folders called "imported user presets"...... a minor pita, but kind of makes sense....

if you don't find any of this in there, your install probably didn't go as planned :)

thanks for replying, tribalogical

I can see the library folder with all the presets when I browse in the finder in osx. 'Application Support' - Ableton - Library. Yep they're there. But they don't show up in Live's Browser. Do I have to drag them over to Live's folder in the Appliction folder?

Cheers

There's a new "Library" gadget at the top of the Live browser.... select one of your 3 assignable folders on the left, then click the Library button... you'll then see that content, with that folder 'permanently' assigned to the Library (you can of course change it later if you want to)...... to get to the Library again later, just click that folder.

did that do the trick?
