Video Tutorial - Time Stretching & Granulation in Sampler

Post by punching_sandwiches » Tue Feb 26, 2013 10:26 pm

Hi guys, Just posted my first video tutorial on youtube!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsB2srqiayo

This time we learn how to get some time stretching & granular synthesis effects in sampler.

Hopefully it'll be useful to someone.

Feedback is welcome, as I say this is my first ever tutorial video so I need all the help I can get :)

cheers.

I've done this with either synced LFO, or I think with Mod Envelope instead of LFO as a slicing preset. Gets reeeeally fun when mod wheel controls amount for either of those two since you could record pitchbend and mod movements in clips.

With Live 9.... I guess things can only get crazier haha

Edit: another variation is synced LFO non trigger, in conjunction with arpeggiator. It goes on and on.

Your tutorial is great. It demonstrates the technique clearly, with demonstrations.

Nice tips yur2die4, lots of sound design opportunities there. Thanks for watching!

Btw, Arpeggiator has that hold function :D

When people were making Step sequencers, I decided to use the granular stretch to make a clip sequencer.

Basically, I had Arpeggiator on hold, and a Random device alternating between 4 different notes. Each note would hold a different synced sample, the fourth one was none. They also each sent back different velocities (to give color feedback to the controller). What you were able to do then was have a sequence of like 6 Green, one Yellow and then one Red, one bar each of loops. Silly songs like that. Sorry to hijack :P

But applying it more to the sound design opportunities, I imagine you could once again use Arpeggiator except as a pitch mod on the sample.

And to get More crazy, exted the duration of the arp to 101%, and have Sampler set to 1 note Legato mode. Yum. I'll have to get back in the lab now!!
