CJing with LIVE! R U Ready 4 it? ;)

Post by CJ Vega » Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:13 am

Hi Everybody!

I’ve been using Live since version 1 and in fact now we can say that is probably the best software in the market.

Live has gave me (and you) the possibility to create a new concept, the CJ witch stands for Computer Jogging and the ability to combine two worlds in a row: DJing & Production!

Basically in Live 5 the warp is almost perfect, so pretty soon the monkey business of pitching with decks and turntables will be a thing of the past. The MMA will follow and new horizons will open to the community, yes, the Multi Media Artist, combining Audio, Midi and Video in one shot, like the one-man-band used to do in the past. (Artists like Plastikman already have developed this concept with special controllers like the CTRL (www.plastikman.com), but with new controllers on the board, soon we can all get our hands on them!)

Actually in my live sets I’m using 2x PowerBooks so that the MMA concept will pass the "beta testing" and soon I’ll be ready to present it to the world:

Live+Reason in one PBG4 + Akaos VJ soft in the other!

Result? = Simple, everything matches perfectly!
Imagine that you assign a knob in your controller to send ccs at ctrl #23
to control the filter at the subtractor, at the same time the same knob will be assign to control a filter effect on channel 1 at Live and at the same cc will control the speed of a tunnel effect from a layer at the VJ software!!

Get ready 4 it, it’s already there! ;)

Cheers,

CJ VEGA

I've been doing this for a while now. I run Live on a Powerbook running surround-sound audio, and Live and Arkaos on a desktop Mac (Powerbooks don't yet have the power to run 24fps multi-layer XGA video) synced to the Powerbook running DMX lighting and Arkaos video. I control everything with the Ozonic plugged into the Powerbook.

I find it difficult to explain to people what I do. The DJ term doesn't do it justice.. it's so much more than that. Maybe the CJ or MMA terms will catch on!

Yeh Pitch Black, Classic quality comedy. Leonard Rossiter was on TV last night here in UK when they showed 2001 A Space Odyssey. Brilliant actor. "17 minutes late, points failure at Dagenham..."

I wonder if Live and VJ/Multimedia software would run well on the HAL 9000 Series. Maybe that would put an end to all the mac/pc wars.

"I'm sorry Dave, but merely running three large digital video projections and playing back 7.1 surround sound with 39 tracks of audio has left me rather bored. Could you possibly allow me to do some astrophysical calculations while you tinker with your toys?"

And then later...

"I'm sorry Dave, but this interaction of 4/4 electronic beats and swirling video is rather 1997. I'm going to simulate the birth of the universe instead."

if you're on pc try midividgpu. i can run it with live on the one machine, but it ain't as fancy as, say, gridpro...
what makes you say it's a new concept? as far as i can tell people have been attempting this kind of thing since the late 70's, and thats just in australia!

Yeah Clearscreen... Soft Machine and the late great Mark Boyle for example (67-68?). Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art did a stunning retrospective of Boyle Family couple of years back which featured some of the films/oil lamp pieces Mark Boyle did for Soft Machine and (I think) Hendrix too. It was mesmerising, utterly brilliant stuff.

Nothing new under the sun as they say... You could go back a bit further to sound/film experiments - 1930's Germany - Oskar Fischinger maybe? Or even Norman McLaren' short jazz animations.

Woohoo !

Hello there!

I didnt mean new concept as "new concept"!!! I mean as the new concept available to all of us, and not just to kind of "*Jean Michelle Jarre & friends" producers!

Nowadays technology makes it possible, thats the point. ;)
Fusion of concepts: Audio, Video, MIdi...8)

there is a mix of what iv been doing with it dj producer wise here http://www.n2owar.net/AVFX/tracks/DJFX.mp3
and a video of what i do animation wise From the Universal Language DVD/Album I made with Nick Stentience herehttp://66.36.253.133/media/QTA001.wmv
Im in the midst of finishing off the last parts of the PA iv been putting together right now and shall be launching full on for end of year all over the EU.
Iv linked it all out so i can play both music and visuals linked to a high standard on the fly as im playing, the rider for this im in the midst of looking into sponcership wise due to me running the video production in a good year to around 1 million live, thats a huge target demographic to market to. i may even get in contact with ableton themselves to see if they wish to be branded at the events i am doing to help to push the word on the street out about the stunning product :D "if any ableton member of staff is reading this get in contact if ya like  " ill be sending a main marketing package out to all the companies that have hardware and software that i would like to link up later this month ill let ya know how it goes.

Some very good points! I am eager to see the creativity that comes from this technology...the bottom line is that the final product (a great mix) will improve and that is what really matters...the music!

I've worked in the adult entertainment industry for years.....
You may want to rethink that name....

CJ = Circle Jerk

Circle Jerk #1

A website that contains no real content yet redirects to traffic trades and
has an endless loop of popups which are inescapable.

Circle Jerk #2

A bunch of gay guys in a circle wanking.....
