Ableton Live 9 retina display support ?

Post by DJ Diego Vega » Tue Mar 05, 2013 8:34 pm

Hi,

I haven't been able to install Ableton Live 9 yet but I wanted to know if it finally has retina display support for the latest Macbooks?

Thanks!

Why wouldn't it?

If you can't scale Live properly under OSX, just create a dualboot and run Windows 8 :)

There's no official Retina support but it looks fine to me.

It's a bit pixelated but only up close. From a normal distance it looks fine. In fact it probably looks better than average because in addition to its high resolution the Retina screen also has excellent colors, contrast, viewing-angles and brightness. The pixels also give the whole thing an interesting "retro" 8 bit look which I actually kind of like.

?? Retina is just a fancy word for high resolution display.

I've run live 6 on my 27inch IPS panel for years, which runs 2560x1440 resolution.

If you can't scale under OSX, just create a dualboot and run Windows 8. :)

I think it looks really hideous, and hope that the Ableton team will address retina support at some point. Check out my other thread for pics of Live running on retina screen to see the pixelation.

Thanks for your replies.

I haven't installed it yet because I'm still at work, but I will check it out tonight since I have the upgrade from Live 8 to 9 Suite bought some months ago.

Too bad there's still no retina display... I guess it will look pixelated similar to 8, please Ableton do something about this! :?

I can't say that I enjoy the old school 8-bit look

Well it certainly could look better if there was Retina support (simply stunning) and saying that it looks *worse* than on standard resolution screens is bullshit.

The visible amount of pixels is the same, you just can see them more because the screen is naturally sharper and doubles all pixels.

Ableton support anything monitor wise. I'm surprised it has an user interface. No multi-monitor, no retina, BS. Does this mean you get no more screen real estate / visible track count than on the 1400 x 900 macbook pro? The way apple showed video software they could fit 1080p video on around half the screen.
