Well I'm £109 for standard Live 9 which i'm fine with but I'm sure this hasn't changed from what it was yesterday. As i thought there was supposed to be a discount on it before? I would have spent £80 on a pre-release update.
However I'll be sticking with Live 8. Mainly because i don't see much advantage of 9 over 8. Only thing i used regularly in the beta was glue compressor and the new eq8.
Live 9 Pricing
Re: Live 9 Pricing
You're upgrade from v7 to 9 was $108? Yeah the Apple one is a lot better. I'm not bitching, I'm beefin'. The voice of past users has, on more than one occasion, been highly dissatisfied with Ableton's handling of its pricing rates for existing users. The confusion in pricing and the misleading advertisements have a lot to do with this. In terms of Ableton's work and the quality of product I believe it is unmatched. It's ok to me that they price the upgrade at $300 but as mentioned several times before the new users got a break and the old users didn't. That's the problem. It's unfair to offer to one set of customers a discount and not offer the same to the old users. These people that just upgraded to Suite 8 have their hands on 9 today. FOR FREE. The people who bought it before the announcement and before the cut-off have to PAY. For the SAME PRODUCT. If people had known this pay structure would be used to sell 9 don't you think they would have waited for the announcement and the promotion to upgrade to 8 suite? And if they decided to use that pay structure in the future, the past owners will still have to pay more for 10. And so on. Building new interest without paying attention to old interest is a very dangerous business practice.sowhoso wrote:the car analogy is a bad one. with a car you're getting a whole new piece of metal (plastic in some cases). anyway...
considering the new features and all the new library stuff, the price i paid for the upgrade from v7 to v9 Standard is generous, $108
hell, i paid that much and more for one plugin on many occasions
WTF with all the bitching???!!!

Re: Live 9 Pricing
you think the apple analogy is better?
It isn't.
You don't mind the upgrade price but your bitter because new users got a good deal because they are in the right place at the right time? Any positive is good in my book & a discount is a positive if that is for students or because live is about to release a new product. You obviously have no idea how business works. This whole promotion thing is costing them a great deal of money, they have to time things right & drive sales, they do not want sales to drop drastically during such a large promotion & because of push more users = more $$$ it makes total sense. The whole pricing structure for upgrades has been complex & can understand people having a moan about that but even that is now old, but you are simply unhappy because live cost a bit less for them than you think it should of, why not just get over it.

Re: Live 9 Pricing
It has been around 2 years since a paying upgrade for Live. I use to be a Sonar customer and everyone complained about the £100 clockwork upgrades every year. Ok, Cakewalk gave you a lot of extra 3rd party stuff to buy you off. My Live upgrade worked out around £200 so can't complain too much as I now can do M4L.

Costs a bit less? $300 less to be exact. For the same product. I'm not the only customer who holds the belief that longtime users aren't getting a fair shake. Anyone who's been buying live since it's inception in my opinion deserves better than what they are getting now. You're opinion is one thing and at no point have I questioned anyone else's knowledge of anything. Don't be the guy that starts making things personal.
Re: Live 9 Pricing
Just to be clear, I'm not die-hard against what's going on but if I believe I'm getting a raw deal as a consumer, I have the right to voice my concern. My vote for my poll lies in the "Disappointed, come on Ableton" category. I just believe that they could have done a better job in terms of existing customers. Far too often people take to personal attacks and lack self control because there is a computer screen and the privilege of anonymity. There is no need to get in your feelings because one customer has a problem with the service or products they received. Everyone should be allowed to voice their opinion without being persecuted for their beliefs.
