grey and beige

Post by subliminal » Tue Mar 05, 2013 11:46 pm

How grey is Live 9?
How beige is the Ableton website?

Having spent most of the day in one or the other getting into Live 9 I feel like I've overdosed on the most boring colours known to man. Grey icon, grey startup screen, grey interface, beige website, beige forum, grey icon, grey startup screen.. an endless cycle of depressing colour schemes.

I mean, I understand the minimalist Berlin aesthetic, but haven't we tipped over into some kind of brutalist concrete 1984 dystopia here?

Good thing the sun was shining today or I might have slit my wrists...

(just to be clear, this is only a comment on design choices. Jury's out on the actual software, since I didn't get time to properly engage with the beta. Also, I'm not advocating some kind of skeuomorphic dog's-dinner interface either. Just lighten up a bit, guys)

You can change the theme if it doesn't suit you.

BTW, anyone know if the Live 8 theme is available in 9? I haven't upgraded yet (have to wait for my funds to be in order), but i have grown fond of the original color scheme and i agree with subliminal about everything being really gray.

if you take a grey cat and a razor... then shave the cats ass... it's like closing Live and opening the forum.

Good point blakjesus - I'll get on it and try and find a less bland theme. If only I could do the same for the forum..

Yes, it's available, and listed as 'Live 8' in prefs -- and IMO it's far superior to the horrible new default color.

I'm happy with the Monolake one, it's pretty much perfect for day or night too. The default skin I don't understand at all.

Thanks guys - some great suggestions there. Never felt the need of a skin before, but with Live 9 I certainly do!

Can't believe I did this, but I just reverted to Default 8 skin.

I feel like a complete luddite, but the moody grey was actually making me feel uncomfortable and majorly hampering my enjoyment of the new version.

i feel the same and in terms of to bright colors - ableton delivered there too.
i was using the brown skins - because they are better for the night work instead the white ones.
but as i opened the prefs i would only bright skins and no brown one.
hmm makes really no fun to work with the skins. :?

and yeah the webpage+forum is really depressing.
why not some positive colors? like for example a good brown
or anything else.

and i cant even reimport my v8 skin - because v9 wont take it.

the skinning tool isnt working i found on the web - because new segments are added to the gui.

Hilarious comment!

How is spraying Live with eye repellent a good marketing move?
