Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
Do you mean the devices maintaining their last state ?
That's pretty much understandable but still very annoying. Define a 'default' state for unautomated clips would be great.

If a parameter is not automated in the new clip, it should leave off were it was last automated to? To reduce abrupt leaps??
I'm sure they thought this through and had huge arguments about it in the beta forum haha.
I'm just curious about what to expect in general. Instead of whining, I like to learn to adapt and predict outcomes
And no, I don't believe this thread is whining. You are trying to figure out how to implement it in your set without unwanted surprises.
I hope something works out for you!

Haha yeah, i was wrong when i tried this. It does indeed maintain a 'default' setting. And, personally i think it's better like this, but i see your point.yur2die4 wrote:If a parameter is not automated in the new clip, it should leave off were it was last automated to? To reduce abrupt leaps??
anyway that's not the problem i was talking about. This deserves its own topic i guess !

This would definitely fuck up my workflow as well. As a multi instrumentalist I often have multiple tracks armed and would only want to record automation to one track and NOT have needless clips inserted.

Hey, Chapelier.
I think the solution is to use the auto-arm selected track function. It was a beta feature what was removed because it was a mess for a lot of people, but you can still activate it within the option.txt file.
That way you won't need to have all of your "monitor off" tracks always armed.
And when you need to record a clip in a specific track just hit a clip button on your launchpad or whatever. With a bit of luck it would select and arm the track just before launching the clip record.
I didn't test, but that's probably how Push works. (Try faking Push as your control surface with your launchpad, you'll notice that Live will automatically arm the selected track).
It's late, I hope I'm readable.

Woah, what? What was that last part?? Selecting LP as the in out for Push as Control Surface? Or did I interpret that wrong?
Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
so whats the point of having armed tracks but dont want record this track?

Thanks, i'll try that, but i don't think it would work...for many reasons :Valiumdupeuple wrote:Hey, Chapelier.

- would totally change my workflow
- i need a 'through' track so i can play instruments
- sometimes my foot controller triggers a recording AND playing several other clips at the same time, so i don't know what would happen
- what happens if i trigger clips with my right hand while recording my left hand playing keyboard ?
etc, etc, etc...

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
So that's me...
Mainly because i'm doing mainly livelooping.
So i have one 'trough' track per instrument (real ones, you know, made out of wood
), monitor to IN. I route this 'through' track to several armed tracks, monitored to OFF. So they are ready to record. records are being launched by a midi foot controller controlling the global track launch.

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
yes, now I recognize this issue as well.
I actually am used to have two armed tracks with monitor set to "auto" in my live set, voice and guitar. I did not set them to monitor IN, as I have pieces of music where I have clips playing on that same channel.
In Live 9 I had to reorganize this, set those channels to monitor IN. and eventually add channels for those clips, which sucks as I try to reduce everything to an 8-channel set up, so it's easy to control with launchpad and nanokontrol, even when you fly.

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
Ha !
i really hope this is gonna change...just add 'disable recording clips when arming session recording' in the prefs !
(One thing for sure, i won't change my workflow. It's the crucial part of my performances, and i've been doing more or less 60 gigs per year for 5 or 6 years. Just to say how i am used to it, not mentioning that i've programmed custom max patches for this particular setup, etc.
And this livelooping setup has proven to be the best by far (at least for me).
Well i won't use session automation for now... that's sad, because it's inspiring.)

Re: L9: Session automation recording useless in a live situation
OP so you basically what two functions...
- record clips
- record session automation
...but at the moment these two functions are mapped to one button, the "session record" [O] Button.
So when you want to record JUST session automation you also record a clip, right?
