Live 8 Suite Boxed to Live 9 Suite, what about the Library?

Post by HouseContainer » Wed Mar 13, 2013 11:19 pm

I have installed Ableton Live 8 Suite Boxed edition. The one that came with 4 DVDs containing all the samples. I bought the upgrade to Ableton Live 9 Suite, there is no longer a boxed version since everything is downloadable from the Ableton website.

Do I need to download all the packages from the Ableton website and install these to a separate library, or are most of them still the same was the DVDs that came with Ableton Live 8.

The Live 9 library contains most (maybe all?) of the same content as the Live 8 library. However, additional features have been added to the clips, presets, etc. and they've been reorganized to fit the new browser structure in Live 9. So basically, yeah, to take advantage of the new features of Live 9, you have to download it all again. Most of the content is in individual packs ranging in size from about 100 MB up to 4 GB or so, so it's not like you have one big 50GB download to do. You can pick and choose what packs are most important to you to download first. See also this answer from the Ableton help page: https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/sui ... installed/

Note that there IS a boxed version available at extra cost if you REALLY don't want to download the new content. It's at the bottom of the "shop" page on the main Ableton web site.

Thanks for the reply. That link really answered my question. I don't need a boxed version downloading is ok with me, even better then switching DVDs. In the past you would only get everything if you choose the boxed version.
