so shit is: i have digested the warping thing in live 4 but reading the forum i am still asking my self if i can record directly in live and then warp or if i must take in my vinyls and cd with a different soft and than warp them.
i do have little problems warping music taken directly into live even if i've been quite precise with warping. it doesn't go together
sorry, i am talking about long housy tracks
any suggestion (even inlive 5) will be so good

I dont record vinyl anymore, but when I did do it, I found it easier to record into garageband, then export and work with it in live. Or if you are on PC, acid is very simple to record with as well (and you can easily find a downloadable version. For the record, i dont normally rip off software companies, but if im only using it for one basic prupose, im not going to spend a couple hundred dollars on it, lol.)
So give that a try. Unless you really want to go straight into live for some reason.

Why would you need to use another app to record audio then warp in Live?
Record into Live. Render to disc. Bring rendered file back into Live and warp.
I use Audacity on a separate computer to record. But that is because I do not have an audio in on my laptop(unless you count the audio in from the motherboard). I could put Live on my desktop but my laptop smokes my desktop and I'd rather save the extra unlock feature for a future PC or possibly Mac upgrade.

I use a seperate app (PT) to record my vinyl tracks (don't know why but I do)
I get the BPM from a segment (Loop) of the track I just recorded and that makes things alot easier when I finally warp into Live
not sure but when I record long tracks into Live and try to warp it just comes out wrong
later

same for me about long tracks
i just need to warp 5-6 tracks and chop out some smaler loops and then play with the whole buch but i am freakin out
how the hell am i wrong in takin in tracks or what i think i got the whole warping thing right but sometime i see swings other time straight and even tapping the original bpm stays as it likes
really don't understand

Recording into Live should be no different than any other app. I have not tried it myself so I don't have much room to talk, but still.
The only thing I ever record(which is into audacity) is my voice, bass guitar, an analog noise making device from 4ms.com and percussive sounds (like laying a mic on a desk and then banging on the desk hard enough to make the mic jump)
Maybe Robert can shed some light on warping issues with file recorded into Live Vs. whatever other app that can record audio.

Recording into something like wavelab gives you more control (and better metering while recording to get the best signal) And if it's from vinyl you can do any touch ups there then save it. If you work in batches you can do this for a few days then later on jump into ableton and start warping already well recorded wavs.
With cd's you can just rip it using wavelab (or editor of choice) and save it to a file, no actual recording gets done so you get an exact copy.

Hehe, I've been thinking of providing a service to record and warp peoples records... but then I wouldn't get any music done
