With the exception of the percussion parts which I played in via keyboard, I used Audio-to-MIDI for everything on this track:

All melody+harmony lines were done via Stratocaster plugged into my interface, then drag+dropped onto Kontakt instances. Almost no after-the-fact editing, except to clean up spots where I hit the wrong note while playing and changing the timing of one section because I played it too fast.
Pretty happy with the results.
Live 9 Convert To Midi From Audio Is Hopelessly Inaccurate?
Re: Live 9 Convert To Midi From Audio Is Hopelessly Inaccurate?
i sang into my mic and it worked fine... then i sung into the same mic with the entire Vienna Boys Choir and it didn't separate all the voices during the conversion. what a piece of shit.
i figured it might be because of all the high pitch pre-pubessant voices so i played We Are The World into my mic. it completely left out MJ, Cindy Lauper and Kenny Rogers during the chorus. fuckin garbage.

that is an example of a real world and realistic expectation of the sort of thing you can do with it as is, today, sans any updates or patching.

Kinda with you on this..
Recorded myself Doing a simple kick, snare, kick snare beatbox and tried to convert it to midi and got a bun?h of scattered notes. I even tried tapping on the source and recorded that. Same result.
Useless feature in my experience

Re: Live 9 Convert To Midi From Audio Is Hopelessly Inaccurate?
I tried a fingerpicking piece in both Melodyne and Live.
Melodyne was pretty close after some messing around (although tweaking is very simple).
Live on Melody was way off but on Harmony it was reasonably close.
To be honest, I don't need it to be exact, and I think thats asking for too much with a guitar piece.
The midi it came up with was pretty complimentary to the guitar piece and threw in some notes that I would never have played, which sounded cool.
I guess it depends what you are looking for - total accuracy - forget it.
Ableton not getting something spot on is hardly unusual - seems to be par for the course unfortunately
