ableton 9 projects cannot be opened in ableton 8?

I have saved a project in ableton 9 for a friend, but he cannot open it with ableton 8!

How do I save projects in ableton 9 so that a ableton 8 user can open it?

Any software which is upgraded to a newer version will be able to open and host files saved from older versions, but not the other way around. Ableton 9 is a new release which means that there has been a lot of changes in the way files may be saved. This data is only accessible to the newer version and since live 8 is older, it does not have the ability to open newer files.

Now this is not 100% valid as I am still on Live 8 and not to familiar with Live 9. It may be possible, but from my basic understanding of upgrades in software, this is usually the case for any software. The easiest way to let your buddy open the file is to "Collect and Save" your project. The template may not load, but Live will render out all the samples and from each track which your friend can use in Live 8.
