Hot-swap function - am I missing something ?

Post by vojd » Mon Mar 25, 2013 4:50 am

Hi all ! I was wandering - what is the difference between hot swapping in Live and regular browsing for presets or samples ? As it is on my Live 9 I have to double click or hit enter to load a preset or sample and live is NOT playing clips or incoming notes through the selected preset/sample when the hot browser is activated. It is basically the same behavior as with regular browsing.

In the manual it states that the hot swap browser would play through incoming notes but nothing like that happens.Am I missing something stupid and obvious? It would make much more sense if it behaved as stated.

Any help is much appreciated, this is crucial to my workflow

I noticed the same thing. In hot-swap mode, selecting presets just plays the normal preview tone.

The big difference between hot-swap and normal browser function is that hot-swap preserves all the other devices on a track. Say you have a synth and a bunch of effects on a track. You're happy with the effects but want to change the synth. If you double-click in the browser, the new synth will replace every device in the track. If you use hot-swap, you can replace the synth and leave the effects intact.

Hot-swap is also convenient in that it automatically focuses the file browser on the subfolder containing the existing preset or device.

also you can ESC out of the hot swap to return to the original sound/preset.
