Why Live 9 can't find my VSTs?

Post by Ago5tino » Thu Mar 07, 2013 9:27 pm

Hi everyone! I bought 8.2.1 nearly a month ago and today I upgraded it to 9.
I love it, but I just need to work with my VST instruments & FX, that are in the standard /C:/Programs(x86)/Steinberg/Vstplugins: Live 8 immediately found them, but 9 does't!! 8O
I activated the switch that finds VSTs in another folder, I made sure the folder was that one. I rescanned a hundred of times, but the light behind "Rescan" lights just on the time of the click, and immediately turns off, without doing anything... in the Live folder the Plugin folder is empty!
I use Windows 7 64-bit, if it can help...
Thank you!! 8)

Do you use the 32bit or 64bit version of Live 9? - If you use the 64bit version, it won't find and use your 32bit VSTs, because there's no bitbridging in Live9.

You'll have to check for 64bit versions of your VSTs and install and use those. If you use VSTs that are only availabe in 32bit, you'll have to look out for a bitbridging tool like jBridge. It's cheap, easy to use and works well at all over here: http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/

If you should consider using jBridge be aware of running both jBridge and Live in administrator-mode (it took me hours to sort that out!). ;)

Ah, yes... I remember my 8.2.1 was probably 32-bit... Well, I'll check for the 64-bit versions, thank u so much! ;)

hey kid.. I am a Wind7 64bit user and I kinda ran into the same problem here and yes while ableton 9 doesn't support 32bit vsts I managed to get around it as I have Komplete 8 by native instruments and had been using my Vst's it comes with in 32bit format such Massive, FM8, absynth5 and such. and the way I had it set up in Ableton suite 8 was the same way you do "C:/Program files(x86)/Vstplugins" and everything was fine.. well for my suprise here Native Instruments Komplete 8 doesn't give you the option of choosing what format you want to intall your Vst's in 32 or 64bit, so what it does is, it installs both or intalls one and mirros the other one so then you can tell your DAW what format to use.
So all I did was to go to My computer, open C; drive and instead of going to Program files (x86) I went to the Regular "program files" from there I scrolled down to Native Instruments and It had a folder called vstplugins64 bit.. so My ableton 9 vst directory looks like this "C:/Program files/Native instruments/Vstplugins64bit"
So I encourage you to go to the regular Program files folder and find your VSt's company and hopefully they made a 64bit version and added it automatically like NI did. Good luck.
