nice, i was wondering if Foetus would get a nibble. 'Hole' and 'nail' then i fell off, but Trent and Manson owe him a lot i figure. At the show he came out with a bat on his shoulders swinging around the pigs heads durin his set. Too intense for my ears now.slatepipe wrote:never seen him, though i'd love to, especially that period. 'nail' and 'bedrock' kind of era i'd reckon?knotkranky wrote:Foetus
at the Roxy in l.a. 1986, which is damn early for industrial.
The curtain lifted revealing Thirlwell and 8 freshly slaughtered pigs heads swinging from wires.
It was pretty intoxicating hearing his noise back then.

Saw NIN at The Edge in Palo Alto, CA which is a club with a max capacity of 650 and was a warm up show just before they did Woodstock and blew up huge. Even from the back of the room you could have lobbed something and easily hit Trent. After the show I got to meet him and to my disappointment I turned into a fangirl rambling on about his influence on me. He mostly stared at my blankly while the voice in my head was screaming “Shut up! Quit talking!”
I've always enjoyed NIN shows, usually something great and new visually, but it can't beat seeing a bare bones warm up show at a club.

Swedish House Mafia, last year.
The energy was over the top. And fireworks and shit. It was epic.

Jane's Addiction first reunion tour, with Goldie opening. Another surpise opener for Chicago was Smashing Pumpkins, so my two favorite bands of all time in one gig. Oh, and my sister won the tickets for us to go, and I found $120 on the floor as we were leaving.
Best electronic gig was probably Chemical Brothers with the Orb opening. Right around the Exit Planet Dust days, crazy stuff. Orb was better for me that night, but it was over the top on all fronts. Runner up would be a 3.5 hour show Thievery Corporation put on at the Metro in Chicago, one of my all tiem favorite small venues.

Cocteau Twins, the acid was good too.
God Head Silo and Six Finger Sattelite same bill
Project Blowed
Silver Apples

They played all of their best songs, and it sounded fantastic, really fucking loud in a good way.
Re: Best gig you ever attended? (as a punter!)
Some great Artists there......Portishead in particular - they're from Portishead, which is 10 minutes from here. Really good people. But not prolific......that's the Bristol way. One album per decade, if you're lucky.
Re: Best gig you ever attended? (as a punter!)
yes, quite.....There used to be quite a good band back in the 80's called Head, and they were from the next town along the coast - Clevedon. If you don't know it, Clevedon is a 'quaint' Victorian seaside town with a pier.
Incredible co-incidence, as the lead singer of Head was called 'Clevedon Pier'
Mr and Mrs Pier and their son, Clevedon.
