Push - Fixed Length recording doesn't work with Audio tracks

Post by Panoramica » Wed Apr 03, 2013 6:13 am

Hi all,

I'm testing recording from a microphone into Live.

I have created an Audio track and set the 'Audio From' to 'Ext In', but note that I get the same results when it is set to 'Resampling'.

Fixed Length is enabled and set to 1 bar.

I hold down Select and click the track selector to Arm the track.

I punch a red pad in the track to start recording into that clip.

I expect recording to stop after 1 bar, but it continues until I hit the pad again.

Edit: the same thing happens if I used the 'New' button to arm the track.

Is this just another limitation of Audio tracks?

Note that I'm aware that of this from 27.3.3 in the manual, but this isn't what I'm after:
Tip: enabling Fixed Length while recording will switch recording off and loop the last few bars of the clip, depending on the Fixed Length setting.

Thanks,
Dan

As far as I understand it, fixed length only refers to midi clips.

This is consistent with the way Live already works - double click a midi clip slot to create a track, and set the length accordingly.

The same can't be done for an audio clip.

Although it would be handy, I agree, it is yet to become a feature.

A work around I would think would be using the Looper effect.

I use my footswitch in User Mode to stop and start the scenerecord bottun in Ableton. :) It's the only alternative i have found.

Here is a example.

It is working as intended!

-> Enable "fixed length"

-> Arm the Track you want record on

-> select a empty slot

-> hit "Record" [O] ( the button above play)

-> Audio Track gets recorded in fixed length

-> select next slot ( select + pad (slot) in "Session" )

-> hit "Record"

-> etc.

But you are right, it doesn´t work when you hit a pad (Session) to record in a slot.

Have fun!

That's probably an doable fix for them, but they are for sure consumed with so many other things (Namely getting Push off the shelf and out the doors)
It will be some time before they get to address everything and start rolling again. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes other than financially.. :)

It seems to only work when you press fixed length before recording in the first clip. Push will not remember the fixed length before the first recording. It will remember for all clips after the first.
