Bill & Melinda Gates are giving 95% of their wealth to Africa... you may complain about paying for your OS or Office package, but perhaps it is the only way that money gets from your bank account to an Aids hospital in Sudan or a nursery in Ethiopia.
I'm still googling to find out what Steve Jobs is spending his billions on...

Your the first person I have ever seen write this about Bill gates and your right, its true. he doesnt boradcast it either which I find very admirable. For years he tried to keep it quite becasue undoubtedly he would get criticism for that. Hes in a no win situation.anonymouse wrote:Bill & Melinda Gates are giving 95% of their wealth to Africa... you may complain about paying for your OS or Office package, but perhaps it is the only way that money gets from your bank account to an Aids hospital in Sudan or a nursery in Ethiopia.

I have no problem with Bill Gates and admire him for his success, but I admire him a lot more for still being grounded, and of course giving hundreds of millions to charity. .
Now, if only Gates would send a mil to the Retarded music charity. I promise I wil spend it wisely...
Drinks are on me Forever!!!
I really hope that is 95% but I seriously doubt it, that would be (last I heard which could be well out of date) somewhere in the region of 47 billion dollars and I cant see that much going to charity without someone putting up a fight. But I really do hope it is right. Either way he is at least giving a decent wad as alot of very wealthy people do, so I certainly wouldnt want to slate him for it.anonymouse wrote:Bill & Melinda Gates are giving 95% of their wealth to Africa... you may complain about paying for your OS or Office package, but perhaps it is the only way that money gets from your bank account to an Aids hospital in Sudan or a nursery in Ethiopia.

Yup, they've pledged 95% of their wealth:forge wrote:I really hope that is 95% but I seriously doubt it, that would be (last I heard which could be well out of date) somewhere in the region of 47 billion dollars and I cant see that much going to charity without someone putting up a fight. I am not sure if many very wealthy people actually do give much to charity, let alone take a leadership role in how the money is spent as the Gateses are.
Most megawealthy American's idea of charity is for $5000 GOP fundraiser dinner tickets to rub shoulders with GWB & Cheney, oil barons, media moguls and arms dealers.
I take my hat off to Gates (OK I don't wear a hat) for donating his considerable wealth to charity. Once you've got so much you don't need it any more. But he still deserves to have his arse kicked for providing the world with windows. Every day at work I take his name in vain. Nothing short of criminal. Like buying a car which blows up as soon as you get on the motorway.
But good for him for giving all the money we spend on computer software to people who need it.

The plain fact is; there is nothing better out there than Windows. You may moan about the flaws that is has, but there has never been a one-size-fits-all product that has been so successful. All Windows users, despite any petty complaints, must just love the availability of great software out there that is designed for it. XP is getting a bit old, and I don't reckon its successor is really going to cut the mustard, but can you imagine how shit the world would be if there were 10 different OS competing for the desktop publishing niche, the audio niche, the video niche, the gamin niche etc etc?
Kill Linux, Kill Mac Os (Macintel is a step in the right direction) - let all the world's best developers focus on one platform and give us their best product.

I'd love to agree with you. But as a computer operating system, it makes a good ashtray. I'd rather use an abacus. In fact I'd rather use an abacus to break a windows system cd into little pieces. It won't do as much damage in bits...anonymouse wrote:The plain fact is; there is nothing better out there than Windows.
My 2p. No offence (except to Microsoft).
