Ableton / Maschine

Post by fastfx » Fri Apr 05, 2013 5:58 pm

Hi,

I know there are a million tutorials etc on having maschine on multiple outputs in live, but for the life of me i just cant work out what i want to do.

Basically i just want to have 8 midi channels in live (each one corresponding to the 8 groups on machine)... then I'd like to export my patterns from maschine into live for playback - either by dragging the midi pattern from maschine to its corresponding channel strip or recording the clip in.

I'd like to process each channel with abletons effects.

I have so far managed to get each group playing on its own channel in Live, so group A plays on 'maschine 24, group b plays on B' etc as you can see below.....But when i press record in one of the clip slots it doesn't record the midi from maschin into the clip.

Here are some pics of how i have it set up at the moment -

Ins And Outs in ableton -

Channel/group B (using Ext instrument - not sure if i should be or not?)

Channel C -

Channel D

Maschine Routings - (group B = Out2, Group C = Out3 etc....)

Any help would really be appreciated, i'm fairly new to live.

Thanks

just drag & drop the midi pattern from maschine to ableton. If you want to record the midi from maschine, you must choose midi out in the first sound slot from maschine....but then you can only record the midi events.

Ive tried dragging and dropping the midi pattern to a clip slot.....it just makes everything start clashing and playing horribly.

I think i must be close but something is wrong.

Change them to what?

I've just tried changing them to 'sounds to midi notes' - and set channel to channel 3 for C - then dragged the pattern from maschine to the clip slot. But now it plays twice as loud - so i selected an empty pattern in maschine and played the clip but no sound at all then!

ANNOYING!

Thanks delicioso - i followed that video and i am a bit clearer now - i can now drag patterns from maschine to the midi channel in ableton - BUT i am not able to process each channel with abletons own effects, because they are midi channels -

What would i need to do now so that each channel in ableton (A,B etc) routes to an audio channel so i can process them with abletons effects?

Thanks guys...

Thanks, the above video is about routing each sound out of maschine though, i want to route the 8 groups, i'm getting close - below is how i have it set up for 4 groups in ableton/maschine - as you can see, i have 4 midi channels for me to drag the midi clip from maschine to live, and 4 audio channels, so each group has its own audio channel :

the problem i have now is that when i open up a kit in maschine, it isn't playing in sync with the clips on the other channels....e.g above i have groups A,B & C playing from the midi clips, but when i load a kit in maschine in group 4, it is playing out of time.

Any idea why this is?

Thanks

You can route the groups like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amcWkdbxIXE

or
you can use the external instrument device so you have audio and midi in the same track.
Maschine: Group > Output Tab > Destination
Live: insert external instrument device and select the midi and audio i/o
