Softsynths Suddenly Crashing Live
Softsynths Suddenly Crashing Live
Hi all,
I was working in a live set, and I recorded some audio from an external guitar, external Bass and a drum line from NI Battery 2. No problems until that point. Then I added a multi-track drum line from Stylux RMX. Still no problems. Now when I try to add a soft synth to the set, the synth either crashes Live or I get a message telling me that samples haven't been loaded and do I want to browse for them?
The synths that have crashed the program are NI FM7 and B4. NI Absynth 2 works o.k., but Absynth 3 gives me the message asking if I want to browse for the samples that didn't load.
I've tried opening brand new Live sets and loading those synths. The results are the same (crashes, error messages etc.). When I open the standalone version of those synths, they all work fine.
I'm getting frustrated because I want to flesh out the parts and arrangement for this great new song my compatriots and I are working on. Oone other thing; This issue happens whether I'm running live 4.14 or live 5.0.1.
Anything in particular I can do to start troubleshooting this situation?
Thanks!
Anthony

What platform are you on? OS X or XP?
In my brief 3 years of experience with NI plugs (Kontakt & Battery), I have found their stuff to be the most flakey plugins in my setup. In OS 9 an earlier version of Kontakt brought my Logic setup to it's knees.. I dumped Kontakt and never brought it to OS X. I stuck with Battery though, and everytime I get Ableton crashing (perhaps once a week) I know for sure it's Battery's fault.

Thanks for the replies to date. I'm on OSX. My set up is on a 1 Gigahertz Powerbook G4 with 1.25 gig of memory. I use a MOTU 828 mkII as my audio interface. I almost never have problems with my NI plug ins, and I use plenty of 'em (Kontakt, Reaktor, Absynth, Battery, FM7, Pro-53. etc.) I think the best advice I've received so far is to reinstall my NI Komplete 2 programs and see if that solves the problem. I'll try that tonight and let you guys know how it goes.
I've never heard of Bidule or Energy XT, but I'll look into them. I'll also post this stuff as sugested by Lo-Fi. I think it's a corruption issue, though, because I've been using Live with my NI stuff constantly for the last year and haven't experienced an issue like this before.
All the best...Lord Anthony

aannucci, just out of curiosity, did you have this problem with 4.1.3?
I ask because I've had what seems to be the same problem, and there's a few things I've noticed.
First of all, I don't have the problem with 4.1.3, but I do with 4.1.4 - don't know about 5.0.1 yet though, I've just downloaded it, and will install after a reformat sometime soon.
The second thing I've noticed is the circumstances under which it seems to happen;
To cut it short, if I use the option to scan for plugins, then I just know it's gonna crash the system (Windows XP) if I try to use some softsynth during that same session. However, if I don't scan for the plugins during a session, then the odds of it crashing are greatly reduced.
Strange but true
PS:
I get the crashes on every softsynth I've thrown at it, including my beloved FM7.
