Project at 88.2k & samples at 44.1k - resample?
Project at 88.2k & samples at 44.1k - resample?
I've recently started using Live at 88.2/24. I've noticed, however, that most of the samples I'm working with (Roland drum hits, etc.) are 44.1.
Is this in any way problematic? Should I be up-sampling the samples I have to 88.2/24 before I start working?
Cheers.

for the best possible sound quality you should do the sample rate conversion with a high quality offline program (the Live user manual also recommends this).
even in high quality mode, Live's sample rate conversion is optimised for real-time work, not for pristine quality.

Why use Live at 88.2 in the first place, especially if your samples are already 44.1kHz.

I'm under the impression that this is advantageous when it comes time to master the track. Is this correct?Tarekith wrote:Why use Live at 88.2 in the first place, especially if your samples are already 44.1kHz.

No, best to stick with the same project tempo in this case. Maybe if you had recorded the samples at 88.2 originally, but even then it's debatable.

So there are no advantages to mastering in 88.2/24 over 44.1/24?

I'm confused. Is there nothing to be gained from going to 88.2? If so, why is it an option?

it's an endless debate, and depends on lots of factors. here's the most recent thread on it around these parts:

addon:(copied that comment from another site)
The higher the sample rate, the more you can do with the recorded file afterwards.
This is especially important if you plan on pitching down a lot,
as higher sample rates will preserve high frequencies,
whereas 44.1 kHz will sound muffled and lack energy.
No! I'll never use the Push-App Live 9 !!!

it would be better not to do sample rate conversion in Live...

Not so pleasing result according to its chart.

Thanks a lot! I'll read those links now.
Maybe it's time to go back to synth drums again...

Samplerate conversion only offline !!!
No DAW has a good conversion, not even Protools.
Here is one of the best and it's free:
