any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
Are these browser problems unique to the Push/Live setup, or is this a problem when just using Live 9 on it's own? If it's inherent in 9, then I'll be sticking with 8 until it gets ironed out.
You guys complaining are 100% right. Being able to access your own samples isn't asking for much. I understand they built it to work seamlessly with their own material, but how in the world could they not seriously consider that everyone has some sort of sample library they use?

I just finished writing the tutorial and submitted it. Here's a preview of how the Browser works when it's setup:

The tutorial should be posted soon! If you're in a rush, you can download the BrowserComponent.py file here and throw it in the Push Remote Script folder: http://earhumps.com/transfer/BrowserComponent.py
Have fun

Because Push isn't monome. Push is mainly desined for those who can't program their own set up. And it is advertised and supposed to work out of the box.lo.key wrote:again, maybe this is just my monome experience coming through here, but i really dont understand all of you who just want it to work out of the box. Making your own unique set up has always been the primary appeal of using ableton live. There's plenty of feature completed closed platforms. If thats what you want, why not go use logic, or maschine, or traktor. The appeal of ableton is that it provides you the tools and the sandbox to make it your own.

It's actually meant for both. It works fine out of the box. You can start writing immediately with no setup at all. Plug it in and Live asks you if you want to start a song optimized with a 909 track, a bass track and a grand piano track. No problemo. If you want additional functionality there is plenty of room for you to mess around.pencilrocket wrote:Because Push isn't monome. Push is mainly desined for those who can't program their own set up. I wouldn't exactly call not being able to do something that seems so fundamentally basic such as browsing your own samples, "fine out of the box".SuburbanThug wrote:It works fine out of the box.
That is if someone happens to hack up something in Max4Live (which has to be purchased separately) or if you know how to program in python. Btw, missing basic functionality is not "additional functionality".SuburbanThug wrote:If you want additional functionality there is plenty of room for you to mess around.

I've had absolutely no trouble loading my own drum samples into drum racks. I've had no trouble loading my own presets in Operator, etc. I knew before I bought Push that browsing clips from the hardware was not an option. There is a difference between what you expect and what you get. You do not understand what this machine is meant to do, therefore you expect it to do things it does not. It is a traditional style synth/sequencer with the added functionality of being a clip launcher. It is not an APC 40 upgrade. Try it, you might like it.
Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
i think what your sayin does have somethin to do with it suburban they said it was an instrument which everyone got and mentioned not looking at the screen and that has made people start thinkin about the functionality they need to do everything from push! i know im guilty! gonna check out your vid limbs cant wait for the tutorial! and to jay its nothing to do with the browser in L9, push has a different browser! that browser works really well in L9 and is alot better than in 8 the new version (9) is really nice to work with
Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
I really don't have a problem to switch to my notebook sometimes. but it would be nice if i can load my presets from a folder that I have choosen. when I browse them with push they are really mixed up in many categeories they don't belong to. or they just appear all in the "folder" "other". would be nicer if I can browse my Reaktor- presets through a synth-subfolder named "Reaktor".
there are way bette instruments than those from ableton. i would call it the "weak side" of live. so I would say they should know about their weak side and give easy acess to 3rd party instruments like those from NI. would be nice...

Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
What was up with all the talk about L9 changed their browser FOR Push
now......Push doesn't even use the L9 browser method.......Why did I even try to research the product before I bought it?
Oh yeah to discover some reasonable expectation of how it works and how it might work for me.
Ableton has straight LIED to us and I wouldn't be surprised to find they're telling us it's gonna change only to find it doesn't or it'll change so much I'll have to reorganize my current work.
My expectations are shattered and Ableton can suck my balls until they get it right.
Fuck you for taking my Live Intro out of the equation too.
AND....
Fuck you to anyone who tells me python script or M4L is the answer
Week two of this weak ass Push piece of crap is still...... a let down.
Best part is Abe's wont say nothing about it ......except that I'm breaking forum rules (But they wont say that till Monday) Enjoy the truth till then.

except that they continuously promoted the "browse for a bass sound, record a bassline! browse for a drumkit, step sequence it!" angle. what human being would watch their advertising and guess that this browsing process wouldn't work with their existing live library? that's where the gap is, and is proven many times over by the first wave of users complaining on their forum. just think what it's going to be like in 3 months when everyone else has received theirs. best advice to ableton is to fix this quick before it gets any uglier.SuburbanThug wrote:I've had absolutely no trouble loading my own drum samples into drum racks. i don't have an issue with adjusting work flow to fit the stuff i buy. i do have a problem with using a browsing system that forces me to mix my personal work (samples, presets) with that of the company i bought from. a browser is nearly useless if it doesn't provide a way to filter wanted content from unwanted content. an "other" folder is not a proper filter (just imagine if your OS required you to put every music file, word doc, email or spreadsheet in a folder called "My Stuff"). i regularly browse via m______e, kontakt, and omnisphere, each of which has their own system, is dead easy to use, and allows me to filter and categorize my own stuff easily. i don't think it's too much to ask that push do the same, especially considering the marketing.
i think you're right though about clip browsing... they seem to have really been downplaying session view as a feature.
on the OP's question: i have received a reply from ableton regarding the shitty browser. while it was certainly polite, it was definitely guarded in regards to any new information. they gave some indication that things will improve, just not when or how. the only definitive "no" was to the question of deleting factory library content… that is never going to happen.
on max for live: it's great and all, but i'm relatively sure it will not provide a solution for improving the browser. i would love to be proven wrong.
on the .py adjustments: again, many thanks to dj limbs for doing ableton's work for them! looking forward to the tutorial (although it looks as if the link to the modified .py file is dead?).
Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
Thanks for catching that...weird, I see the file on the server but I also can't get to it. I put it on Google drive for the time being:scientist wrote:[

Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
Okay, yes. I see how this would be annoying for someone with a lot of user content. Most of my user content is breaks that I process on a song to song basis. Most other stuff I build from the ground up and I'm not computer shy, even with a controller claiming "mouseless workflow." Browsing on the Push is certainly not what I bought it for though I can see why you guys are being critical. I've just accepted at this point that whatever is faster from the computer I can do from the computer. In the coming year there will be improvements made and I would think that this would be close to the top of the list since it's the second biggest complaint next to the LEDs. I'm definitely seeing why people see Live 9 as geared towards the new buyer.
(Humnumb, this doesn't include you. You don't own one so I don't understand what you're complaining about

wow... if it is true that would be bullsh*t. only noob would want to keep all factory preset/sample showed forever in their browser.scientist wrote: the only definitive "no" was to the question of deleting factory library content… that is never going to happen.
Re: any word from abes on the poor user browsing in push?
It's not hard to understand that people who already paid too much money for Live 9 and Push would expect things to work out of the box instead of having to pay more money for M4L just to hope for a hacked workaround to come along or having to learn python programming just for the most basic features like browsing samples and clips.lo.key wrote:again, maybe this is just my monome experience coming through here, but i really dont understand all of you who just want it to work out of the box. If you're wanting to browse presets of NI products like Reaktor from hardware, you may want to take a look at Maschine which has exclusive support for Komplete where all presets from all of Komplete can be browsed and loaded directly from the Maschine hardware and all the parameters are automatically mapped in a logical way (even more improved now with Komplete 9): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcWIW6Muw9UDavid_R wrote:it would be nice if i can load my presets from a folder that I have choosen. when I browse them with push they are really mixed up in many categeories they don't belong to. or they just appear all in the "folder" "other". would be nicer if I can browse my Reaktor- presets through a synth-subfolder named "Reaktor".

Not even pretending not to be a salesman anymore I see. That's progress.
