Real-time export (with Access Virus and TotalControl) Solved

Post by Electrodaimon » Wed Apr 17, 2013 2:30 pm

Hi,

Please consider adding real-time export.

I use lots of external gear and now I need to arm the tracks, record them, set in to auto and export, then set all the external channels to in again. If you have a lot of external gear then it's a bit of a pain in the ass ;) just to export an audio file. Which I do a lot, as I have a habit playing the song in a bunch of different equipment and settings just to get a feel for the song.

I also use Cubase (although not for electronic music) which is a lot smoother in this regard and I would love to have this option in Ableton Live as well.

(I also hope people from Ableton reads this forum.)

Yes, I use that device.

But my drum machine and my synths have to be recorded to audio tracks before exporting or else they won't produce any sound, because they are external devices that must run in real-time.

I thought that when a set uses external instruments, it necessarily renders real time.

Turns out it can.

I use the TotalControl for my Virus which is what messed the whole thing up, but I have found a workaround which I will try out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

1. Check all hardware synths with midi clock and channel set.
2. Use External Instrument in Ableton Live. Categories>Instruments.
3. Set Midi To from drop down box to your midi interface.
4. Set Channel.
5. Set Audio From drop down box 1/2 for stereo or 1 for mono (click configure to check audio preferences).
6. Set gain level output on software, computer hardware, and midi.
7. Record midi notes or play back via external hardware to Ableton Live.
8. Make sure you have output from hardware plugged cables accordingly to midi and audio to audio input on computer or audio interface.
9. File Export Audio/Video. There will be a count down from 10 sec then it will trigger notes on external hardware synth and send to audio capture interface / mic device on computer. Option to save as aiff or wav and other settings.
Work with any older hardware synths without usb but you have to have a usb midi interface hub and current drivers for your computer.
Your welcome.
