Romney Vs. Obama -----------the Debates
Re: Romney Vs. Obama -----------the Debates
I’m kind of surprised by the complete lack of celebrities claiming they are going to leave the country if Obama stays in office/Romney wins.
Is it because they finally realized nobody gives a shit or is it because there’s nowhere to go that’s any better off than we are?
I started scrolling out a response to the education discussion going on, but it turned out to be tl;dr
In short:
Higher education will be the next economy destroying bubble to burst. Everybody knows it and higher education institutions are just continuing to raise costs so they can shore up money before the bubble bursts…and maybe start construction on that much (not) needed sports facility.
People in high school would have a better idea of what they wanted to do in life if the curriculum and career paths weren’t extremely narrow. Anything creative is seen as a plan b hobby at best. The trades aren’t seen as much better. The current education system is all about book smarts.

Cartman: [walks over to a picture of the UCB basketball team] You have some might strong-lookin' workers heah, sahr. I'd be willin' to offer you forty dollars for two of the white ones and fifty for the blacks.
Dean Howland: Are you refering to our student athletes?
Cartman: Student atholetes. Hoho, that is brilliant sahr. Now, when we sell their likeness for video games, how do we get around payin' for our slaves uh- "student atheletes" then?

Re: Romney Vs. Obama -----------the Debates
There was a new episode of South Park in the last month that deals with what seems like a sudden realization that all the hits professional football players take can lead to serious consequences down the road, this being the most important issue in the country right now, and as a result we need to pussify high school sports.
It really boggles my mind how much weight is given in schools to sports that have professional leagues. The openings in professional sports are extremely finite. The odds of making a team are extremely low, yet we treat it like it’s a solid educational career path….to the point of you can completely suck in all other areas of study.
But that’s probably because the 1 in 10,000 who actually succeeds makes a lot of money for a lot of people so it’s perfectly ok to give the other 9,999 people unrealistic expectations.

eh hem... college sports, as eluded to, make a SHIT TON of money... it's just that the athletes never see any of it... with the exception of a few scholarships - which basically amounts to letting your kids ride free at your own personal six flags. by dangling the free pass and the hope of riches it makes it hard to resist the dream... which is why they call that big tendon that ends so many of those dreams the Achilles.

And yet careers in entertainment where openings are infinite and can equally make a lot of other people a lot of money aren’t given the same attention and respect, but that’s most likely because the educational institution wouldn’t reap any kind of financial reward from that.
If I haven’t mentioned this, I HATE professional sports.

hopefully the utter disppontment that is Obama will be starting to make people realise the system is rotten to the core and needs to be completely replaced. Fuck knows how to go about it though, but I reckon when the next generation of kids who are used to having their opinions registered on every single issue online and feeling like they matter grow up and run the world they will have to bring in full participatory voting of some kind.. they won't put up with this shit.starvingstudent wrote:now you lay on Obama's words in current events. how does it feel? can you actually get a good nights rest? if your answer is YES then you might as well shoot nails at your neighbors.
It's the curse of Gen X to see what a complete pile off bullshit the political system we inherited is and how irrelevant it is to our times while simultaneously feeling completely powerless to do anything about it because the old bastards who relish in it still have all the weapons. We have to wait for those fuckers to die.
