Sampler and Simpler is a synthesizer with envelopes, filter and lfos, etc... In warped audio-clips you never have the possibilities as in a sampler.
amp envelope I see, but filters, filter envelopes, lfos (now with max for live) can all be achieved with effects no? I do see that there's a big difference between triggering a sample chromatically (sampler) and as a one shot (clip).
I guess given my workflow I'd be inclined to warp in a clip, render, then drop the clip into a sampler. But maybe warping in sampler saves a step?

lfos and envelopes triggered with the keyboard, independently for each key you play ?

Also its a matter of space on screen. Just to recreate the functionality of a std 4 by 4 is going take up a number of tracks and scenes. Scenes which can not be launched as compositional units. Chromatic playback of a warped loop will require midimapping a controller, taking that channel out of action for general use. Its not impossible to use clips as a quasi-sampler, but it does generate a lot of constraints on performing live. Of course, limitations often create a useful focus, but sometimes it just feels like a problem solving exercise.

Thanks. All makes sense.
All of the limitations mentioned about using session for this could be gotten around by rendering warped audio and dropping into simpler/sampler. I guess the real value added would come about from being able to modulate warp-related parameters in real time inside simpler/sampler. I can certainly see the creative possibilities there.

Yep. Timestretching in sampler or the m4l device Granulator isn't impossible though. Just needs tweaking. I use sampler with a really short loop that scrolls through a sample using an lfo that modulates loop start. Its possible to do the same thing in granulator... with some maxing about you can make the lfo tempo synced.

having them warp in simpler would allow for new rhythmic possibilities inside drumracks
