ATTN: IF L5 IS SHITE ON YOUR COMPUTER, TRASH YOUR PREFS!!
ALL OF THEM AND DONT GO BACK(live prefs that is)
it worked for me, and it should work for you

this seems to be a good tip. some people couldn't even get live5.0.1 started but after trashing preferences files everything was a-ok.
and make sure you delete the whole prefs-directory, not just the Preferences.cfg. Alex (or someone at ableton) told that live5.0.1 tries to adapt its preferences from the previous stable version you have installed (4.1.4 or whatever) and that might apparently cause problems for some.

Incase anyone is having troubl finding their live preferences directory, on a PC it will be at a location that looks something like:
C:/Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Ableton/Live 4.1.4/Preferences
(you migt need to turn on 'view hidden files' in folder options to see the application data folder).
I just deleted the live 4.1.4 and 5.0.1 preferences, and it seems to have improved some unresponsiveness while editing in the arrange view.
thanks for the heads up.

Hi folks,
So may delete the content of the preferences folder but not the preferences folder itself.
regards,
Alex
No, that is not right. If you delete the complete! preferences folder. Live 5.0.1 "thinks" it is started for the first time and will copy the preferences again from your previous final Live version.and make sure you delete the whole prefs-directory, not just the Preferences.cfg.

one thing that i've noticed and it may help some.
I have a project template that was created using 4.0 and whenever i load a project using that old template, my cpu jumps to 36%+. the other night i systematically deleted channels and plug-ins from an older project trying to find the source but eventually got down to an empty project and a cpu still idling at 35%.
i created a new template in live5, recreated the project from scratch and my cpu never idled above 3%. give that a shot too. it may help
