OH NO!!! Major Functionality Gone Live8->Live9

Post by zlatko » Mon Apr 22, 2013 9:43 am

Hi All,

Sorry for the shout, maybe not so major but definitely killed my invaluable tricks. The orig. tempo control from the MIDI clips is gone. This was the only way to create accurate quintuplets, septuplets etc.... also MIDI file processing is hereby made more difficult, not to mention the lack of MIDI being possibly group-warped with the audio..... tell me it's not true and that it is just hidden somewhere...please... :)

No they got rid of it.

Nobody even knows why but the only guess is that they were trying to unclutter the GUI with the newer midi features.

I think now they intend you to use the midi stretch feature but for something that was simple to do, they made it more cumbersome to do.

And people had other uses for this as well.

Bad move IMO.

Hi, off topic, sorry, but *please*, I've been looking for it quite a lot, could you point me to some thread or tutorial explaining how to sync MIDI tracks to pre-recorded audio, played by humans with no metronome and therefore having some slight tempo floating?

I wouldn't mind going through the audio playback marking quarter beats on the computer keyboard in real-time, if necessary.

(Ableton Live 7 here.)

Thanks for any hint and again sorry for the off-topic connection.

Oh, well, bad move then, seems I will have to stick to Live 8, can't live without complex rhythms... Unless - MIDI stretch, where is that option?? ...

Not sure about Live 7 question though, normally MIDI and Audio scale together if you change the tempo, if the tracks are mutually out of time then it needs manual warp-marker adjustment....

Cheers

From your next post it seems as you already found it. The "Orig. BPM" parameter in the "Notes" part of the clip view does it, I believe.

Thanks, I'll try to figure it out...

I was hoping that an input method exists to put warp markers on the pre-recorded audio clip on the fly, during playback, by tapping quarters on the PC keyboard or mouse button... and let the software know that "quarters in the MIDI tracks group must be stretched/compressed to stay in sync with the audio clip warp markers". If no such things exists, that'll be a deception and an item for the features requests.

Cheers!
