What is FIXED:N on scale page in Push?

What is FIXED:N on scale page in Push?

I am confused as to what the FIXED:N is doing on the SCALES settings page. I get that the button below it is for showing all notes or just notes in the scale, but I can't figure out what the setting above it is doing...

I believe fixed mode locks the root note of the scale to the bottom left corner of the grid
