Ableton 8 and Akai s3000xl

Post by garsun » Mon Apr 22, 2013 2:48 pm

Hi
I’m hoping someone might be able to help with an issue I have when working with a recently purchased Akai s300xl sampler and ableton live 8
I suppose the question/answer could relate to another multi timbral hardware
In the akai I am working in multi setting, and for example I have 4 drum parts (programs) coming from the akai, and in ableton I have a separate midi channel for each part (eg kick, snare, hat, tom)
I can sequence each midi part fine, and when played back everything is fine
I have tried two ways to do this, first with a mid channel and audio channel for each part and then using the external instrument plug in/plug out and both seem ok, but what I am struggling with is to use send return for effects on each midi part
Eg controlling the delay on the snare
But when I send the effect to the snare channel it affects all tracks coming from the akai sampler
Is there a way to do this or do I need an external mixing desk?

Hopefully someone will understand what im trying to say!
THANKS!

Midi effects or audio effects. All the programs still use the same audio outputs on the device unless it has a multi-output adapter.

You only have a single stereo input correct? You need multiple inputs or do it externally. If all the external instrument devices have the same "audio from", the effects will be applied to all.

commit to audio then you can apply to each sound .. but you need the 8 output expansion and 8 ins on your soundcard

Thanks for your replies, I'm a bit of a newbie with both hardware and ableton

What you have said was what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure, so thanks for that

What about using midi effects? Would this be possible if I was using midi effects?

Thanks

midi effects should be available on each channel separately
