Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
Yeah, that definitely does not seem right. Mine was extremely sensitive right out of the box.
That is definitely a legitimate complaint, and one that I would hope Ableton would be able to rectify
Do you notice similar difficulty in getting aftertouch/pressure to register?

Have you also tried changing the velocity settings of the plug-ins you are using? Especially in simpler when using drum racks?shootdaj wrote:Yes, I have. They basically told me that there's some sort of a "break-in" period during which the pads won't work properly. If you're interested in tracking the progress, I started a thread about inconsistent pad velocities here:agent314 wrote:I'm not criticizing people with legitimate complaints - I'm criticizing the people who get obsessed with niggling details and throw the baby out with the bathwater. Please stop criticizing people who are looking to make the product better.
"OMG THE WHITE PADS AREN'T ALL THE SAME SHADE SEND IT BACK"
Man, fuck that noise.
If you've tried all the sensitivity and curve settings and the pads are still not sensitive, it's possible you have defective unit. Have you opened a support case?

Yeah, I always make sure to test it with another controller so as to rule out the internal velocity of the plugin/instrument as the cause. With drum racks this is an issue sometimes, which is understandable, but this issue happens even with a basic Analog instrument with default settings. In any case, my other controllers play just fine with my plugins/instruments in terms of velocity sensitivity, while the Push takes much more effort to operate.

Same here. That's what made me aware something wasn't quite right.shootdaj wrote:

Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
It's a great controller for Live. There's some improvements, sure. But all in all, it's working for me. I love the scales and session view. It's a little convoluted for improvising on the fly. It's a little cumbersome to navigate to track devices when in session mode.
I never was a fan of drum racks and I'm still not today. I prefer Geist as a software solution but in full disclosure I use a Machinedrum and Octatrack. What would make drum racks more appealing with Push is per step automation, activated filters on the simplers, and a way to extract chains from the hardware.
I can see why it's a $600 piece of equipment, but if you're on the fence and have other alternatives, don't talk yourself into wanting one. That is unless you're an awesome finger drummer, which I'm not.
Push works for me because it makes controller Live a little smoother. But in several scenarios it gets in the way.

Push and Live...im loving it! Live 9 is a bit slower for me on loading times but I'm writing tracks in half the time with this combination so I can't complain! lol I never wanted to break away from the computer screen entirely but needed that tight controller integration to free up the workflow. Things to improve off the top of my head; remembering scale settings, copy/paste session and note, a nice way to note sequence. Already lots brewing it seems in the max community so I wait patiently as I'm not in the programming mode right now. Velocity is fine for me with a quick tweak and the slight white variation is not an issue...

Aftertouch seems to be working fine, as far as I can tell.agent314 wrote:Yeah, that definitely does not seem right. Mine was extremely sensitive right out of the box.

Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
Push is AMAZING! I honestly could use it as is without any further updates from Ableton and be completely happy and satisfied with the purchase. That said, sure there are little things here and there that would make Push better and I'm sure Ableton have plans to implement most of the feature people are requesting...but pound for pound Push is excellent product.
Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
Yay! I just got mine today!
It's awesome !

Figured out a lot on my own... cant wait to spend some serious time with this thing. ...
First thing I noticed was my screensaver turns on... it never does that!
haha

My view is that when they finish the software it will be pretty good, as it stands at the moment for me though it feels pretty limited.
So for me it seems good for drum racks but that's about it.

It's a fantastic piece of gear, but feels half-baked as it is now. The sensitivity feels off... you really have to slam the buttons to reach the upper midi signals.
The browsing is baffling. Am I retarded or is it impossible to find your own instruments made with sampler? I realize there's a workaround for drums, but haven't seen any for playing scales. I can also just access a very limited selection of the Suite stock library of sounds. I don't understand why it operates a small selection.
It's meant to be a machine to make your own music, and as such it feels unfinished. The hardware is super nice, but the implentation with Live is lacking atm. I'm happy with my purchase, because its shortcomings will surely be rectified, but mildly disappointed

hold user mode button and adjust the pad treshold -> "problem" fixedhalblaine wrote:It's a fantastic piece of gear, but feels half-baked as it is now. The sensitivity feels off... you really have to slam the buttons to reach the upper midi signals.

Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
That was my conclusion. I walked away from the presentation of it wanting one, but thinking about playing the songs I do on it instead of the Remote SL, and realizing that browsing with Push is still a bit cumbersome, I realized that my Remote SL and Launchpad were good enough. Plus I'm waiting on a QueNexus.djadonis206 wrote: I can see why it's a $600 piece of equipment, but if you're on the fence and have other alternatives, don't talk yourself into wanting one.
Disclaimer here, I've become an OK keyboard player and am looking forward to applying some classes on theory which includes a lot of sheet music reading. At this point a straight keyboard makes way more sense to me. If I was starting out and wanted to get into playing melodies from a different perspective then Push would seem that much cooler. It's freakin pretty though!
Re: Thoughts on Push a few weeks on?
I'd also like to mention why Push is so awesome to me--
As a guitar player my skills are sub par when it comes to keyboard playing. I know music theory but translating the theory I know over to a standard keyboard while keeping a high level of expression has always been a challenge. Push has bridged the gap between guitar and keys for me. Even for those who have no knowledge of music theory will find Push a delight to create chords and melodies using Push's In Key scale modes.
The Scales and chords mode was a huge selling point for me and I think Ableton did an incredible job.

im loving it...ive never played with drum machine/step sequencer before, def enjoying it. loving note scale mode as well. i can only see it getting better, especially with the user community like nativekontrol making their own stuff
