Drum Rack - Velocity (Advice Please)

Post by Venuq » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:42 pm

I was just wondering if somebody could assist me with a little issue that is bugging me, although it can be solved one way or another I feel there may be some form of shortcut that I don't know about so if anyone can help me that would be ace.

Basically the problem I have is whenever Im using the drum rack and I load a sample (for instance a shaker). I might like a rhythm with differing levels of that one shaker sample to drive the pattern on a bit. Is there an easy way of changing the level of the sample other than automating the actual sample volume or loading multiple versions of the sample sample at different volumes? The MIDI velocity editor doesn't seem to affect the level of the sample in any way whatsoever, is there some sort of box I can tick on the drum rack or anything like that? Just so you know I am using Ableton 7.

Sorry if this question is one that can easily be solved, its an ongoing thing that's leading me to believe there must be an easier way. Thanks for reading and I'll give thanks in advance for anyone who can assist me in any way  Cheers!

you need to set the "Vel" box (on the far right in the drum rack pad info pane) to something other that 0% (the default). try 50% for starters. you need to do it for every pad, and right click will give you an option to "apply to siblings" (i.e. all other pads as well). once you've done this then MIDI velocity will affect the volume of the samples.

Yes thank you... I was getting really annoyed at having to adjust the velocity sensitivity everytime i added a new sample. Very useful tip. I had no idea.
