new BOARDS OF CANADA JUNE 11,2013
Re: new BOARDS OF CANADA JUNE 11,2013
wow!! pretty sick! it's so intricate, but in an elegant way. you know sometimes a song with this much going on sounds pretty muddled or something....this is so well done. the video is outstanding too. it's funny, i started rocking it with my laptop speakers, right away i knew i had to grab the head phones! from 4:39 to about 6:30 is PHENOMENAL!!!

I highly recommend the whole album.eddiex wrote:wow!! pretty sick! it's so intricate, but in an elegant way. you know sometimes a song with this much going on sounds pretty muddled or something....this is so well done. the video is outstanding too. it's funny, i started rocking it with my laptop speakers, right away i knew i had to grab the head phones! from 4:39 to about 6:30 is PHENOMENAL!!!
Every time I hear it I either want to throw my computer out the window and quit pretending I produce music or try to aspire as much.
And while it's not quite Boards of Canada it could easily slide into the same DJ mix. Point being there's an astonishing amount of amazing producers out there that get no exposure or credit but if Boards of Canada is going to release something holy shit, I just shat my pants.

i watched a couple of that guys production tutorials....dude said it took him a year to write parks on fire. he spent multiple sessions just doing clicks! i wish i was that patient.
nah, i get your point...there are tons of unrecognized producers/musicians out there, that aren't getting theirs. thank goodness for the internet though right??
i think with b.o.c., their music is really good, but their "mystique" is amazing. i think that is what REALLY rates those guys higher, than say a group/producer that may be doing better music. it stinks...but the way you present, is important. i think b.o.c. just kind of nailed their whole deal. it's like you want to figure out what the hell they are trying to say....if anything.
does trifonic play out or anything? i'll probably pick up that album. is the rest of it is as well done as parks on fire?

My whining has been humbled by a Kleenex box.
I think over the last 5 years I’ve been discovering a lot of great music from producers that aren’t getting much exposure. Just about anybody can get their music on beatport or itunes easily now. There’s just music I like and a lot of it and I rarely take the time to find out about the artists beyond me just liking what I hear. So the whole BoC mystique is lost on me.

Speak for yourself there, thug
Yay there's always plenty of unrecognized talent. If they can get the track record of quality, reputation and amount of copycats that BoC has, then bring forth the dirty britches. It's not like they get all the hype and fans from marketing blitz, it's legit for a reason. Not every single artist can get that. What's stopping anyone else from shitting their pants over any artist and posting about it on a forum?
Trifonic is tite, I hear more well done Amon Tobin influence than anything, bravo, but if we were to compare the 2 (and I know that you weren't comparing Trifonic to BoC) it's like comparing a-director-who-shows-more-influence-of-another-director to Kubrick. Point being, people copy BoC, not vice-versa. Just like Burial spawned a shitload of copycats. Those copycats would be thrilled if people told them "That sounds like Burial", because that's what they set out to do. I'm getting a little off trail.
No ill will man, but not everyone is going to recognize all the great talent out there even if they spent every waking moment looking for it. And not every great talented artist is going to be recognized and paid for their efforts.
We all know how much talentless bullshit is set for life just because of the people they know or the money they pay or the blowjobs they give, etc. If you want to get noticed, get out and about, it beats sitting around whining how other people are getting cred. And looking like hating on greatness just gives the impression of bitterness and failure. It's not like you suck or anything. So why is there so much great talent that goes unnoticed"? Well, unnoticed is relative, unless you're comparing to superstardom. But a lot of it comes down to hustle. If a great artist isn't hustling they ain't gonna get noticed, so, you can sit around feeling like a bitter loser or you can hustle. Just don't do it like Funken. But you know this, so what else is left than to offer a tissue?

Re: new BOARDS OF CANADA JUNE 11,2013
I liked BOC a lot 10 years ago. They did some pretty great stuff. These days they've been blown up into this go to group for "cool" "chill" music for people who can't risk listening to something that other people don't love. They say hipsters are all about listening to obscure music but it's absolute bullshit. Not one hipster I know will listen to any guy who I think is great that has a Soundcloud with 40 followers. They need more verification than that. Now there's a creamfest going on all over the internet for the new BoC album that really didn't need the hype in the first place while other people that are huge can't even garnish any where near that kind of attention from the mainstream hipsters. They're all satisfied with their well validated anticipation of a great but not incredibly innovative band. It's probably going to be a good album but I'm really just tired of idols. I'm amazed that Autechre even has a following since it seems that people aren't really interested in what is innovative or interesting or new over what is cool and acceptable. It's sad to see BoC fit neatly into this box.

COCAINE BEAR DOESN'T CARE COCAINE BEAR JUST HAPPY TO HEAR NEW BOC ALBUM
Really, who fuckin' cares about hipster badges or idols blahblahblah?
If someone's going to judge me that I'm excited about hearing the new BoC album, thinking I'm a hipster who "doesn't care about the little guy" /wankwank I will gladly grab their hand and wipe my ass with it.
<-----------DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK
BTW Sub.fm plays a lot of shit from soundcloud users with low follower numbers and most of the tracks are bangers.
Maybe some people idolize, maybe some people think someone else is idolizing because they're fans...50/50 perception and wtf EVERRRR
I mean Jesus Christ it's just another artist putting out another album and because they're well known people are shitting their pants thinking the little guy is getting the boot. Let a motherfucker get excited for a sec and youz guyz is going on about hipster status and shit.
For me it's simple. I like music. Don't care who else likes it or anything else. It's not rocket science. If I like something then I like something. If it happens to fit in with a certain group I can't be arsed to give a fuck about association. Your problem, not mine. I'm not going to change or hide my shit simply because of some certain status that's supposed to be prevalent. Whoopdeefuckingdoo.

Nobody can get excited about anything until I approve it first.
Really I just decided to start a salty debate in here because the announcement of this release inspired something like 4 new threads within like minutes of each other. I didn’t realize they are like the Beatles of electronica to some people.
Personally I’m more excited about the new Daft Punk release but I have a long history with them.
BoC I bought an album. It was solid. Previewed some of their other music but nothing inspired me to purchase more or learn about them. That’s my history with them. Obviously I missed the profoundness of what they did/do for music.
But the same could be said about a lot of artists. It all depends on when you found out about them and what else was going on musically at that same time.

Re: new BOARDS OF CANADA JUNE 11,2013
Yeah they were already hype when I heard about them in the early 2000's so I checked out Geogaddi since it just came out, and I liked it.
Then someone borrowed me their Music Has the Right album and I thought, "er eh, sounds pretty much the same, so I'll just stick with Geogaddi", and they were like, "really?" So I didn't "get it" at the time. I don't think it was repeat listening, like some would assume if you don't like something the first time then it's only if it's tattooed in your head that you like it. It just clicked like a padlock at some point. I think what will make this one better is Campphase was the weakest one imo and hearing snippets of this one already sound like earlier shit.
The new Daft Punk OTOH, I heard that single with Pharrel a couple times before knowing it was DP and I thought, "well this is kind of a catchy lil tune", thinking it was some indie funk band, close to checking who it was. Then I noticed it was DP and other people were like "OMGZORZZZZ THIS IS GOOOODDDD (GOD)" and I REALLY think it's only because it's Daft Punk. It's a FACT, especially with kids, fucking hype and popularity are a huge placebo to their ears.
If it was some indie funk band playing the exact same thing with the same exact recording, people would be "well, this is kind of a catchy lil tune"
but no it's DAFT PUNK SO IT GGGGOOOODDDDZZZOOORRZZZZ. Seriously. It's a catchy little funk tune, it's not some revolutionary song of the year shit.
So, touche?
And really, you have a more legit history with DP than half their teenage fans, which more than half of them are only familiar with some singles but they "know" they're huge because of the internet and their older brothers and sisters, you know, popularity contest high school shit, yet they're prbably more hyped about it than you are. I swear if it was Rebecca Black they'd be like "THIS SONG SUCKS YOU SHOULD DIE"

what excites me is the way the transparency is preserved on that tissue box image. it's like it's really sitting on Ableton's sack flesh tone website.
