Remove master fader? Or send to nothing?
Hey.
So I want to use my 8 channel mixer with ableton. I'm looking at the "Presonus Firestudio Project" audio interface, which has 8 outputs.
The problem is, I can't remove the master fader from ableton. The master appears as if I must send it to an output, leaving me with only 7 usable outputs.
I'll send the L R outs from my mixer straight to my monitors, or to a tape machine.
Is there a way to remove the master fader, or choose to send it to nothing?
Thanks

As long as you are not sending anything to your master fader, then it doesn't matter what you send your master fader to. Output routings in Live are not exclusive. You can have more than one channel routed to the same output.

when i send my channels in ableton to specific outputs, they still are sent to the master fader.
is there a way to avoid that?

You must do something wrong. Did you chose an external out for each track ?

You are definitely sending things to the master at some point - otherwise you would not get anything on the master. Check your signal paths again. Also, you can always bring the master channel down all the way (-inf) and you won't get anything coming out of the master channel anymore.

in the channel output selector ('audio to'), you should choose 'Ext. out', and then a channel. (maybe your auxes are routed to the master track?)
in the same selector pane, select 'sends only'. this way, you can have eight send channels, each routed to a discrete output.

okay, you guys were right. turns out the signal on my master was from the cue.
all four of my outputs now work correctly, with nothing coming out of the master fader.
thanks for the replies!
