M4L idea - the big missing one - coders needed

Post by filter_7 » Tue May 07, 2013 10:39 am

Hi, the big missing one M4L device is:
to map 8 button parameters with fixed value each.

So if i map one to a macro i can choose the output value that let me jump to a specific part of the chain.
If i map it in a fx wet-dry knob i can choose the amount of the fx.

This device should have the choice between normal fashion or momentary.
I think this device will solve a LOT of workaround and tweaking madness for the Live world.

Let me know if you want to be the coder that will make this real. Beer as thanks!

did you mean that each button would set a parameter to a fixed value?
So that for example if you have found 3 good sounding values for wet/dry knob you could have one button for each value.
Changing between those values could be done quickly and accurately.

Currently we can map one UI knob to wet/dry, but turning this knob to EXACTLY right value takes time and you have to remember those important values.

I'm also not sure if I get the idea right (especially because of the "map one to a macro" part), but to me it seems like you're looking for something like that:

Very quick and dirty (it's just an edit of getLivePath by synnack), only for two different values, but it should be enough to check if that's what you are looking for.

It should work like this:
- click Map
- click the device parameter you want to set
- set Set value
- set the parameter value by triggering the button

To me it seems like such a simple task that either this job can be done even without m4l or someone did the job already in m4l. If not I might work on the device.

Or I missed your idea completely...

Thanks tone61 and Because789, you got it.

I mean exactly what you told; a button that triggers a defined amount, wham! No more tweaking for a sweet spot.

I think it's so easy that maybe no one did it.

@Because789: your interface idea is very good, i tried in live 8.3.4 but won't work.
If you multiply the mapping X8 buttons with 2 fixed values each would be great.

One last thing: of course every knob got its range of values.
For example the arpeggiator gate knob goes from 1 to 200%, but in the same device the arpeggiator offset knob goes from -8 to +8.
Mybe we'll need a kind of 'knob range detection' that will adapt the value that we set in a logic context to work.

Thank you again guys, i'm waiting for your great work.

Since it's a collaboration i will do the graphic GUI part, as i'm a graphic designer; so don't worry about that.

We'll share the device to maxforlive.com

A knob range detection or similar is exactly what is needed. I'm looking for solutions.

Isn't it working for you for some knobs or for all of them? In Live 9.0.2 for arp gate it doesn't work (actually it does, but raw value 0.-1. ist too small of a change), but on the operator it works on most knobs.

Yes, on some knobs it works by relative percentage.
I will try it in Live 9.

I di this with the second scene of Isotonik, click and map then choose the pressed and released percentage values....

I've further added the ability choose toggle or momentary behaviour...

Then you can dial in a time that it takes to rach the desired values (pressed and released can have different times so for example you could reach your desired value instantly and then have the value scale back to the released amount over a period of time)

I could even make it have banks of presets that are midi mappable or triggered by midi message and clips with arrange mode....

Cheers

Here's the new patch, now based on Multimap:

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... ues-mapper

Features 8 possible parameters, for each you can set 4 fixed values.

Most things should work now (at least it does in Live 9). Nice would be to show the acutal data type of the knob, but that seems too complicated for what you get...

So you type the values to boxes, but how does mapping work?
Let's say I want to use 3 different values of midi track's Send_A.
How would I do that?

- click first Map button
- click on send A
- midi map the buttons above the first 3 boxes of parameter 1 to wherever you like
- adjust the values in the first 3 boxes of parameter 1
- trigger the values with the buttons you've Chosen

Edit: Min/Max doesn't make much sense anymore, should be removed. And it might be better when the adjustment of the values in the boxes take effect on the parameter (for now the values are only sent when the buttons are triggered). This would make it easier to find the right value.

Is this supposed to work in Live9?
I see round buttons above values - I assume these are the buttons that are used for triggering.
But where are Map buttons?
