Weird bug moving the start and loop pos markers

Post by serotoninsteve » Wed Jul 27, 2005 6:31 pm

Hello,
here I found some more strange things happening:

Global quant 1bar
Options: Snap to 1/16th
fixed grid off

Import a track (6min) loop on , totally zoom out.
Move the startmarker with the mouse, it snaps to 1/16th -> fine ,
but not very lucky because (always) 1/16th is too fine for this zoom level.

It would be better if it was related to the zoom level at least.
An adjustable fixed grid as for notes in midiclips would be the best solution I think.

Highlight the startmarker and hit the right or left arrow key, it snaps to every 2 bars, as for the loop bracket too-> fine

Zoom further in, the steps become smaller, 1bar, 1/2 bar, then the theoretical highest resolution 1/16 bar.

Now it comes: 8O

The steps don´t stop at their smallest value of 1/16, but become smaller and smaller the more you zoom in, until they are so small then :?: th.

Weird!

Also notice that the last digit becomes red between 1/16th steps.
The same happens for the loop brace.

After a while off tweaking around I got some distortion in the audio (like störspratzer) wich stayed until I close Live.

I don´t know if the fixed grid command should affect something in session view, but for now it doesn´t.

I compared this to midiclips where all the snap to grid and fixed grid options work very well.
I think we absolutely need the same integration for audioclips, that would make things so much easyier, especially when you are in a hurry on stage.

You could set the grid to 1bar as ex. , fix it and voila:
You never would have to mess around with this awfull snap to 1/16th thing or the not really working fixed grid option like now.

Firstly Live was intended as a audio app, everything snaped to global quantisation, that worked very well.
Then came midi, wich has now better features in relation to audio.

Please don´t forget to improve audio for the next possible update.

I´ve posted this in the feature wishlist forum too.

No I'm with you steve but I posted about that around b8 (the manual said you could see the values in the bottom right corner), I was in a dialogue with Eduard I think, and he just said that yes there was a grid in enveloppe but that clips only had 16th and that's the end of it.

But yes, I say it again it should have the same options ie, fixed grid or grid adaptive, it doesn't make sense to have a 16th quantize when you move markers in a 5 minutes song zoomed out the the max...
If only they were using their own program

Thanx Chris,

but try what I´ve wrote in my first reply:

When using the mouse for moving the start, stop and loop markers it snaps to 1/16th, even when you are totally zoomed IN, as it always was.

But try to move something with the arrow left and right keys when totally zoomed in, at some level the 1/16th steps are totally gone, and snap to grid disables itself in the options menu, but not everytime I think.

Weird.

I have to leave now.

Let me know how you think off this.
