Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
Look at what you quoted. Its says "There is nothing else in Live that you can create with a single click, except if you are using a modifier or a tool".
I like clicking. Give me a preference so I can make all the extra clicks i want.

Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
i got ya Michael...
it was brought up during beta testing... many of the testers mentioned it, but Ableton's response equated to "it's on our radar"; however, the product was released as is.

It sounds like the word of the day is WATCH.sowhoso wrote:tips:
so... get close to select a line segment, get closer to select a point (or to add a point)
- 1. as you move the mouse pointer closer to an automation line it will change color to highlight the line and then individual points: WATCH
2. to lower/raise a selection of points highlight them first, then move the mouse pointer until those points are selected (change color): WATCH
edit:
- 3. draw curved lines by holding down the ALT key then moving the mouse pointer closer to the line segment until it changes color (a tiny curved line appears under the pointer): WATCH
4. hold down CTRL/CMD to make finer movements on both line segments and points
- 5. to move a selected group of points without adding new points, move the mouse pointer over one of the selected points, all will change color: WATCH

Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
to be honest, double click to create notes in pianoroll has been ridiculous. It would be worse than in break point editing as we are working in piano roll more often.

Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
It makes sense. No? If you could single click to create a note how would you select something in the piano roll? It would be tricky.pencilrocket wrote:to be honest, double click to create notes in pianoroll has been ridiculous. Thats why the Draw Tool was added. So you can single click to create notes with it.

It doesn't compensate the faulty in regard to the efficiency. In a few hours of using, you need 2000 clicks where you would have needed 1000 clicks to create notes. And in draw mode, why does it require us to tap ctrl+b key combination twice in order to do simple "select" & "draw" task....? When you do draw&select 200 times you need to press 800 buttons total, where you would have needed 200...oh god.. It should be able to be done by temporarily pressing 'ctrl'.Michael Hatsis wrote:It makes sense. No? If you could single click to create a note how would you select something in the piano roll? Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
Cool, that reduces it to 400 times.Draw tool is just B now in Live 9
Draw mode -> Select -> Draw mode. In each time "->" you press cmd and b.Funk N. Furter wrote:How do you work out this 4:1 ratio? Is this ctrl B twice or wot?pencilrocket wrote:When you do draw&select 200 times you need to press 800 buttons total
'Temporary ctrl method' : 'Switching method' = 1:4 (In 8.) In 9 it seems 1:2

( There are more than one )Funk N. Furter wrote: Draw tool is just B now in Live 9. I'm glad Ableton are getting into one finger shortcuts, even if there is only one.
Great, except we can not choose our preferred option.
For ages, I have used 'q' as my pencil on/off ( key mapped ). I don't have to look at the keyboard when quickly moving my hand from a synth or other midi controller to the keyboard, but 'b' is a pain in the arse ( for me ). And they used 'q' for hot swapping, so that screwed up my workflow. I use pencil on/off a lot & rarely use hotswap.
Why can't this be changed in user prefs? I don't like your way. I want to do it my way.
Seems such a simple thing to have user configuration for shortcuts. Studio One FTW !

Reaper is the best at giving options
we shouldn't be having this discussion

Yeah.....we shouldn't be......
Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
i dunno bro... i think i'd rather double click than have to use two hands... and look at the keyboard to get started.pencilrocket wrote:It should be able to be done by temporarily pressing 'ctrl'.
Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
^ i'm not knocking your mods... no way! i generally like the functionality that you describe.
BUT... the thing that bothers me about that kind of thing... is that as soon as you sit at someone else's DAW you're lost (and spend more time nervously talking about how you've modded your computer to explain why you can't remember how do _______ than making music). if your drive crashes you're all fuddled up until you restore it AND re-configure the mods. i find that mods are just one more dependency to manage. That's what we call inefficiency. Sacrificing the prioritized operation: one click note creation for the auxiliary operation: select tool. But both behavior could be coexist in each mode if someone need.H20nly wrote:i dunno bro... i think i'd rather double click than have to use two hands... and look at the keyboard to get started.pencilrocket wrote:It should be able to be done by temporarily pressing 'ctrl'.
Re: Live 9 Automation Points.....
i think i get what you're saying... but i still can't help but think that double click is faster than - glance, hold, click.
So... if you mean double click for every single note.. then HELL NO, i don't want that either... give me a single click option regardless of what i have to do to turn that on to get there.
i think that's what you mean... 'ctrl + click' to engage then single click after that. is that right?

I am on PC, so you don't have to worry about preaching to me about your fanatical mouse hating 3rd party iKey regime.Funk N. Furter wrote:I dunno how easy it would be for Ableton to implement.
