totally.

the PC guys jab the Mac guys over performance. The Mac guys jab the PC guys over security. and while generally speaking both platforms have advantages and disadvantages such as the aforementioned there are still a wealth of Mac users satisfied (enough) with performance to still own a Mac, and a wealth of PC users satisified with security enough to still own a PC.

so when an outsider or someone simply new to the community reads some of these jabs they don't know that its mostly in good sarcastic fun.

and thats why you will see more :D :) and  with such posts rather than  and

but we still need an Emoticon that conveys the "please don't fly off the handle pal, i'm just being sarcastic" sentiment that is so often used here on a daily basis.

This thread is silly--by the second or third post it has deteriorated into mac users making silly conjectures and jokes about windows, and talking about instability and crashes they have no real basis to be mentioning--if you have a pc and have specific problems with Live, feel free to voice them, but wholesale slamming of pcs just shows your ignorance. The whole virus talk is just stupid--do you have a pc, and if so, how did you manage to get yourself a virus with all of the availible software? Its silly, many people use their computers on the net all the time and don't get viruses, myself included (three years virus free). I think a lot of things that were true of maybe windows 95 still get passed off as truth about XP. I wonder if Mac users are just upset that Live runs way more efficiently on pcs--look at the cold hard facts of performance tests threads--a decent pc laptop can smoke the most tricked out dual G5, plain and simple. Sorry mac guys, but its true, and it seems like you're talkin' a bunch of crap about systems you don't even have, whereas if you had a decently configured pc, you'd be quite the happy camper. Feel free to post real issues you yourself have had, but to just slag windows and pcs with no basis is just taking loud and saying nothing.

Say what you will, bash me if you please, but I for one am an extremely happy windows users, who got a decent machine for a fair price, with three years of great performance from it, and scores of trouble-free gigs under my belt. No viruses, nothing. People seem to still be operating on information from the nineties--Wake up, XP can be very stable, and you don't have to dedicate your pc audio system to just music and keep it off the net. I use mine on the net constantly, and use it in my work and school for all kinds of graphic and architectural work--the notions that pc systems must be babied and used solely for audio are based on OLD information that is no longer valid. I know all the mac guys feel cooler paying more for less performance, and just love their "beautiful" OSX, but newflash--Live (and most other apps) look and function in the EXACT same manner on both OS's--if you did a blind test wiht Live where all you could see is the monitors, the only way you could tell the difference would be the the pc is faster and can handle more tracks and effects. Anyway, just wanted to chime in as a happy, crash-free, worry-free Live user with a pc.

OK quandry, didn't mean to pee on your picnic table. Just having a larf. I'll just have to live with it when some PC users remind me about Live performance on macs... :)

How did the "sarcasm" emoticon design team get along BTW? How about a wee face making a "Duh" expression?

If anyone reading this thread believes for one second that the Mac users on this board arnt super duper Pompous their deluding themselves.

Bottom line, I own both and my PC simply blows my Mac away in every department. Anyone using a powerbook for Ableton Live in the studio is foolish, and simply a Mac lover.

I use my Mac powerbook for using Live on stage. Other than that it looks nice.

maybe iM just being sarcastic

Not at all. But total bullshit needs to be called out. Before I bought my own computer, I surfed around on Live's forums and the rest of the net, trying to get a perspective on what to get, pc/mac, what type of soundcard, etc. Surely there are others doing that right now, reading a thread with this title for some insight as to what to buy, I just wanted to voice my ACTUAL experience with a pc, rather than let a bunch of mac users talk a bunch of crap about computers they don't even have. Thats all. I'm a big fan of sarcasm and irony, but I guess its kind of escaping me on this thread, other than the irony that in all of their high-horsedness and better-than-you attitude, mac users are using machines that are much slower with Live. I love the mac threads where people are having dropouts at 50% cpu with like three tracks, and they ask what they can do--buy a pc. Have fun with your little track counts and big credit card debt.

It is. Personally I don't care what you think about macs. I like using macs, bottom line. I've used PC's, don't like them, I don't have dropouts etc. I also have a three+ year old powerbook, the thing is sloooow by any standard.
People basically came on here and said a bunch of silly shit because it's a retarded debate. Here's reality, I don't care how fast a PC is if it can't run Digital Performer, Altiverb, Musolomo, Logic 7, etc....
Same holds true for a PC user with Sonar Fruity Loops, Project 5, Synth Edit, and Zeta+.......................

You should lighten up a bit, Mac / PC debates are boring.

It's just a fucking box. Get over it.

I've reduced myself to your level with a juvenile response to this thread because I now see just what a bunch of losers there are in this computer music business. For all the useful, helpful, creative & talented people that frequent this forum, there are the few imbeciles who still like to wage the "mine is faster/sleeker/better/safer etc than yours" bullshit. If they spent as much time making music as they did geekfucking over electrons and criticizing each other, there could be some awesome shit out there. Probably not, because it's the talentless ones who have nothing better to do than wank over the latest VST/softsynth/etc, or measure how many instances of doohickey VST they can run.

Grow up, people, or move on to some geekfuck Mac/PC battleground forum.

Leave this forum to the professionals. And I don't just mean music professionals, but anyone who has the ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner.

Rant over.
