I know from past experiences that the ONLY reason that you work with audio applications OFFLINE intentionally, is if you were running cracked software that might phone home.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am getting a bad vibe from you.
Well, Ambioun-Techno Man. I will correct you. YOU ARE WRONG!!!!! I have never used cracked software in my life!!!!!!EVER!!!! I remember a long time ago a thread came up with regard to who has used cracked software. I said it then and I say it now, I have never used cracked software!!! I own a lot of software and I have receipts for all of it that verify my ownership. I find it insulting to be accused of using cracked stuff!!!!! Read what Telekom had to say further along this thread!!!!

Don't tell me you too Conny think it is all suspicious?

Not so. I have a dedicated XP installation for Audio work, that is not allowed any internet access.
Having an XP installation that boots in seconds instead of minutes is great, but you just can't have that and use it for the internet at the same time. Not in my book anyway.

Exactly!! Thank you inikj

With respect, I think fridge magnet pointed out that he had actually bought a copy of live, and if bernd is gonna check his serial then he would almost certainly be able to spot if fridge was running a cracked copy of live. So why would fridge want to get in touch with ableton over a cracked copy? Think you may have jumped the gun a little. I agree with the earlier post from conny (back from the dark side eh conny?

) that bernd and ableton in general are first class with customer support. If el fridgo is daft enough to get in touch with ableton to validate a crack serial then he won't be giving himself much of a chance to enjoy the delights of L5...

Home taping is killing music...
Thank you too telekom!!!

1) Really, who buys software just to have the update for updates sake... never actually intending to run it. Bah, whatever bro. Dollars to doughnuts you unlocked it online a year ago. (Again, I could be wrong.)
2) He said he waits untill the update is rock solid and has all the bugs worked out. Really? then why are you chomping at the bit to get your hands on vesion 5? It just came out ... wait a year or so untill it's rock solid.
Your story would be more believeable if it were not human nature to try out something just bought for $200+
I mean really .... that's like me saying to you guys ... yep .. I went to compusa and bought a gig of ram for my main studio pc but I'm not gonna install it till I work on a project that will need it.
just my $.02 ... I could be way off.
To answer your questions incinereight:
1) I buy software just to have the update for updates sake. I am not short of cash or struggling financially, so I can afford to buy what takes my fancy, within reason of course.
2) I am not chomping on the bit as you say. I am just taking advantage of an offer. Plus I won't install it just yet. Not until I read that a lot of the main bugs people have been experiencing have been ironed out.
3) Yes you are way off if you think that there is something suspicious about this
One of my main charcter defects is that I am a bit anal retentive in certain things. Especially so regarding my absolutely ROCK SOLID DAW set-ups. My DAWs (I have more than one), are as solid and reliable as you can get!!! In fact I have never ever experienced a crash on my systems (for your information they are on "supposedly" unreliable XP machines) and one reason is I am extremely diligent about what I install and how I install it. Perhaps too careful, but I have absolutely trouble free set-ups that I know that up to now at least, always run reliably.
Bernd form Ableton has sorted out my problem and I am extremely grateful. I have a free update to LIVE 5. I am also extremely grateful for his speedy response in solving this issue for me. So as a mark of gratitude I will buy Operator, which I had no intention of buying (you can read some of my past posts on my opinion of Operator by the way to verify what I thought of it), to help the Ableton finances along to make a better product (ok I know it is a drop in the ocean).
So to all you people who thought I was using a cracked version. You are all WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! And Bernd from Ableton could verify that, because I sent him my details and he could see that I was genuine.
Finally, I agree that it might be a bit strange to buy software and not install it straight away, but I have given my reasons. I take my time about these things because I want a rock solid system. Plus, I have many other gadgets, soft synths, toys to play with etc... to keep me busy, that I don't need to rush into things.
My only concern I guess is that I hope I haven't started a trend and somehow Ableton will suffer financially for this. Though I doubt it very much.
Excuse my long post!!!
