Live + Prism Sound Lyra 2 + MIDI = wtf!!!

So I just acquired a Prism Sound Lyra 2 which I've been waiting forever and a day for... and it sounds awesome, and the latency is close to the speed of light.

And then my natural instinct is to throw Operator on a MIDI track and start bangin a subbass on my AKAI MPK88... and guess what happens when I go to tickle the ivory...


NOTHING HAPPENS!!!


NOTHING!!!!!!


So I switch back to my Xone 4D which is the audio interface that I've been using for the past 6 months... and everything works fine and I make that subbass...

And I go back to the Lyra (running ASIO as well) And I hit the keys and there's no sound. Live clearly gets the midi signal on both the Xone and the Lyra because the little light next to the D top right corner lights up... and I can playback in both... but midi won't playback on the lyra and this baffles me because I thought midi went through the DAW to the soundcard.

say what?

the Prism interface you are talking about is an audio interface only, it doesn't do MIDI. Live doesn't "get MIDI signal" from the Lyra at all, ever.

if you aren't getting any sound to it from Live then you most likely haven't configured the Lyra properly in Live's preferences.

You misunderstood me, I never said the interfaces get midi signal, just that live gets the midi signal on both (since the light comes on)

I simply change between ASIO audio interfaces, I shouldn't need to make any other changes to Live's preferences.

The MPK 88 is properly configured under MIDI/Sync in Live's preferences... works fine with the Xone... when I switch audio interfaces... "it don't work no more" - playback works fine though so the lyra is configured properly as an interface.

okay, well it definitely sounds like your audio config or routing is messed up in Live.

when you say "playback works fine", do you mean playing other audio from Live works okay?

I mean playing sounds in the browser, a midi clip in arrangement view, etc.

I thought the audio interface has nothing to do with midi handling

when you change audio interfaces you also need to change the audio interface that Live is talking to, in the Live audio preferences!

Preferences -> Audio -> Audio Device -> Xone 4D to Lyra

did you also check the input/output config for the Lyra in the Live audio prefs?

Ya, I have no inputs, I tried all the outputs... I'm guessing midi's getting hung somewhere in windows, I'm gonna try it on mac too, what bs.

huh? is Live showing audio on its meters?

On playback yes. It's not showing midi on any channel meters tho and if I hold a midi key down while changing the sample rate on the Lyra the note gets stuck and plays but nothing else after that works

Same exact config on mac CoreAudio to Lyra works perfectly, midi has no problem coming thru.

Keyboard MIDI doesn't work either... it's probably Prism' stupid drivers messing up - it's supposed to have WDM support for Windows, under both Win 7 and Win 8 (x64) the output in sound under control panel is nowhere to be found.

These guys botched the release by 3 months and still half-assed it.

DON'T BUY A PRISM SOUND LYRA (2) YET if you're gonna use it on Windows.
