How can I record a VST's Filter's actions?

Hello!

I am learning to use Ableton, to produce music.
Today I was playing with the VST Minimoog by Arturia, which I configured in order to use its filters with the BCR2000.
I was in Session View, and I recorded a long clip, with the Decay at max so that I could play a note, release it, and it continues playing while I change filter's parameters.
With my surprise Ableton did not record the movements of the knobs of the VST.
What did I do wrong?

I suppose it is something basic, but I cannot figure it out

Hmmm, ok, it seems that I solved it.
On Arrangement View I can, after copying there the clip recorded on Session View, do an overdub recording the movements of the knobs.
I tried then to do the overdub on Session View and it also works now.
I still do not understand why on the first recording it did not record the movements of the knobs.

Are you using L9? Cause if you are you should be able to do some automation in Session View.

I just had a glimpse at L9 and haven't gotten around to exploring the automation feature as yet.

Ehm, leaving aside the shit thing, no, I am using the latest available version of 8.
Does it mean I can only do automation of envelopes in arrangement view?

Yes. You can also program modulation into your clips in session view, but it's quite different. Basically most things get modulated based on a percentage of the current value (so if your filter was at 10,000, you could modulate it based on a percentage of that). It's not very friendly and often doesn't do as you expect. You also cannot record into clips.

You can of course still record knobs into arrangement though.

Till I will not be 100% sure that I am really making music with this program, I will not spend other money.
I made already the mistake of buying too many things thinking that without them I could not make music, thinking that for every difficulty that I was having I needed another gear, and all those thing at the beginning just confused me and I stopped everything.
Now I am simplifying, no hardware, I mean no external sequencer or drum machine or sampler or looper or synth.
Just Ableton for now.
And it is enough to learn, so it is ok.
I can both learn and have fun.
