Re: Climate Change - Going Beyond Dangerous
My vote is for a new plague.Mankind is an overpopulated herd, and natures culling methods are all exhausted, except viruses.
You really want to stop global warming? don't have kids, promote contraception and sterilization.
Our very herd level at 7 billion is the main problem, we are out of balance with the natural environment.
My guess as to how this plays out? we do some half assed attempt at stopping global warming it comes on at a lower rate, the concurrent climate changes don't destroy everything, but set up a global environment for incubating a particularly nasty virus that wipes out half or more of us.

Right, well maybe that's already part of the plan that we aren't in on. Perhaps the powers that be who do know the plan are already taking the precautionary measures to secure their safety, real estate and other T&S between each other for the "New World", whittled down to < 3billion people.
Hopefully the irony is that the plague turns us into an environmentally friendly soylent green

Yep. This is actually one of the more likely scenarios, especially in the short to medium term (less than 50 years) Most people, unfortunately, see this realistic scenario as science fiction.Machinesworking wrote: My guess as to how this plays out? we do some half assed attempt at stopping global warming it comes on at a lower rate, the concurrent climate changes don't destroy everything, but set up a global environment for incubating a particularly nasty virus that wipes out half or more of us.

Yeah, I think we'll do in ourselves with something else. Maybe 6 billion get it and the rest get choked out of whats left of the atmosphere. And then It'll be some kind of 12 Monkeys' underground thing.
Regardless, this is golden time for us blokes. How lucky can we get.

And even if we don't do ourselves in, there's natural Earth cycles.
That's not to say it's pointless in being eco-conservative, but maybe the work should be focused more on destroying the honchos in corporations and politics that destroy humanity? And even if time is the best factor in lowering the amount of assholes that are in power, young rich entrepreneurs should start working together on building an industry focused on wind/water/solar power.
But, since there won't be a significant investment in geo-thermal energy until we're out of oil, I'm hoping we just get it over with and run out of it asap in my lifetime.

(Off-tangent, isn't it becoming scientifically realistic that we'll have much longer lifespans?)

You've cut out parts of the dialog so your meaning is unclear.

You tell me; mostly I was thinking about ice ages or glacial periods. I mean just in general periods of hot and cold periods shifting over areas of the planet.which ones?
Sahara was once tropical, drastic sea level changes over time, volcanos, etc, etc.

What's bullshit, or at least extremely unlikely, is the extinction of the human race within one person's lifetime.

You care, you don't care, it's not your fight, but you keep on typing, you want to watch us all dying so you can keep driving and polluting, whilst toying with semantics, for words mean more to you than actions. Oh why oh why do you not have faith in humanity?? Behold the fucking mirror my friend.stringtapper wrote: What is bullshit? The fact that I want to witness humanity's extinction?

Did I ever once say "I'm not part of the 'problem'"?krulecello wrote:You care, you don't care, it's not your fight, but you keep on typing, you want to watch us all dying so you can keep driving and polluting, whilst toying with semantics, for words mean more to you than actions. No, I didn't.
And to force you to get very specific, there wasn't anything in what you quoted where I said I cared, yet you tried to make it out as if I'm flip flopping. Didn't happen.
Is there a similar lack of attention to detail in your daily regimen of not driving/flying/whatevering?
Also, you make it sound like not having faith in humanity is a bad thing.
