Core Audio and LIVE (MAC OS X)
Core Audio and LIVE (MAC OS X)
I just dl the Core Audio Drivers for OS X so that I can output LIVE 2.0.3 through the MBOX. Well it's not showing up as an option for audio output. Allthough other apps like Quicktime are working through the MBOX. Anyone know why? Has anyone succesfully set up LIVE 2.0.3 and their MBOX?
thanks

I have the same thing. I cannot get Live in OSX to recognies my soundcard. My other apps do. I am using the noisy mini jack out from my laptop. Also has anyone actually been able to run Live in Rewire mode (OSX). Again I cant get this happen but in other apps I can
Was it worth buying this software for a Mac??????????????. Its sluggish, and I will put up with that, but No Rewire, and no recognition of either my Motu or Edirol cards. I thought all this stuff was going to be easy with OSX. Then again other apps are doing fine.
Ableton are you going to support Audio Units, or do you. I say this because Apples Built in Reverb is awesome. Better than anything else out there. Blows away all my VST reverbs + there are other very cool sounding Audio Unit Fx.
Dont get stuck in teh past with crappy VST FX. Audio Units definitely sound better
Ok, I better have a cup of tea now
....and a lie down now that I have blown off some steam.

Core Audio
Yeah , I totally understand...All I have running is Live by itself and there is no option for Digidesign HW.
Hi Gump152,
I installed the Digidesign Core Audio Driver 1.1 on my Mac (G4, 733) and it works. It appears with the "Digidesign HW (MBox)" in the output and input device list.
Do you have another Audio application running under OS X using Core Audio like Reason or Peak? (demo is enough to test) Would be good to know if the Mbox is selecteable in their audio preferences.
regards,
Alex

Hi Alex thanks for responding. I´m not very clued up on OSX so it could easily be something im doing wrong. But no, I dont get any options for the Motu and Edirol cards in Live. They come up fine with Logic. I have a friend who also has the same but he has the Didgidesign Mbox. We both just thought that drivers are needed or an update for Live?
I dont mind so much using the mini jack output but I cant record anything in Live thats my biggest problem. I currently have to switch applications, record in Logic and import in to live. Also I cant get these 2 working together. Do they work?. It now takes longer than ever to do a track because of the amount of importing I have to do.
I have searche dthe forum but there is no clear information. Perhaps Ableton could put instructions about OSX on teh website somwehere because its very confusing as to what will work and what wont. Lots of ifs and buts going around and nobody seems to really know. It would be so appreciate of you guys put a sticky up n the forum regarding Limitations of OSX and Live. Its the not knowing that hinders the productivity. If I knew I could just get on with making music and live with it
As I said I thought all this stuff would be a matter of plug n play with OSX. It seems not to be the case.
So are you saying that the soundcards should work now?
Thanx

Alex,
gump152 here... I do have Reason 2.5 on my machine but it's not in use when I try LIVE through the MBOX...Now the thing is other apps such as Quicktime and I Tunes are working seamlessly through the MBOX. So that tells me I set up the drivers properly.
So I open up LIVE 2.0.3 and in the prefereneces menu I only see the options for "no audio" and "soundsticks".
So you got it working huh? I'm on a G4 867mhz running OSX (Jaguar)
thanks
robert

Hi,
Gump152:
Ok, so that mean in Reason you can choose the MBox as audio device but you cannot do it in Live?
Guest:
under Os X Live supports currently only Core Audio. That means every audio hardware that has a CoreAudio driver should work with Live.
I know that such drivers exists for the MBox and for MOTU (828, 896, PCI-324, PCI-424). I use a MBox and a Motu828 with Live for myself.
So if you have audio interfaces and installed their CoreAudio driver but the device is not chooseable in Live's audio preferences dialog I would need more details about that.
regards,
Alex

Hi Gump152,
if also Reason doesn't show the MBox in it's audio preferences it indicates a problem with the CoreAudio Driver on your system.
Have you tried to reinstall the CoreAudio driver from Digidesign? (http://www.digidesign.com/download/coreaudio/)

Alex

Reason can't use the Digi core audio drivers. This is a known issue. It's supposed to be fixed in Reason 2.5 and ProTools 6.1 (due in June)
I have Live 2.03, Reason 2 and Mbox on a iMac DV. The latest drivers from digi and I can run Live thru the mbox with Reason rewired to Live. Too many tracks and the playback stutters though. But this may be my low powered iMac. Also I believe you need to update Pro Tools LE to 6.01 to use the core drivers EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT using Pro Tools. The digi forum has some threads about this.
Cheers,
Jamie
