LOL, who exactly are THEY? The bible was written by a number of sources, many of whom are unknown, which then evolved along numerous paths and was officially assembled later on. The stuff you speak of was due to pagan/christian convert crossover, they interjected these aspects into the stories to make them more relevant at the time, its not some sort of elaborate copy paste hoax by the church.myrnova wrote: don't talk crap. It was simply a magic ritual, as every "religion" it is simply connected to solar system cycles (planets). The rest is propaganda. The take magic rituals and words out of the real context ant they appear "political" or such...
One thing many people don't realize is that the stories of that time were very much focused on character development and creating a memorable story. The intent was not to create a wholly factual representation. This is because many stories were transmitted by word of mouth for hundreds of years before they were written down, so it had to be a really good story in order to place importance on remembering and spreading it.
Personally I recommend a college level book on Christian history to the OP, I used to have a real good one but I lent it to someone and can't remember the name of the book specifically. You just have to be careful as our understanding of Christian history has changed a lot in the last decade or so due to new findings as well as information gathered from things like the dead sea scrolls.

Yep, the date was only picked to mask existing pagan winter solstice celebrations with a christian holiday. To this day it is still a weird mish mash of Christian and Pagan aspects.Jack McOck wrote:Also the date of the 25th of December is not mentioned in the Bible.

Ah, how foolish of me! Forgive my use of a hierarchical system of respect, fellow citizen. I get confused sometimes.Funk N. Furter wrote: I salute you back, comrade!

Personally I reccommend to grow out of this crap and do/study serious and useful things (science, medicine etc.) rather than wasting time in such superstitions and ridiculous pseudomagic books made by a few rich people when they had to submit ignorant and fearful masses. Every archeologist, storic, antropologist etc. knows that christian religion is a copy of old israel religions copied by ancient egyptian rituals. The same for islam. The rest of the so-called religions are stuck to magic rituals to avoid death, grief and hunger.Donnie wrote:LOL, who exactly are THEY? Gem, that is cheatingmyrnova wrote:It's not that difficult. All ancient astrology (the "ancestor" of modern astronomy) was based on 12 planets and the sun. Re: Anyone know of documentaries about the history of the bible
I guess you forget the moon (monday) and the 12 signs (zodiac) more ancient than christians' superstition. I think it has something to do with constellations or something, but actually I don't care too much of this crap. I prefer science, philosophy and medicine. Religions are for dumb people in my opinion. Or poor ignorant people who cannot study and whose minds remain like children's ones (magic thought etc.). Honest people with a little culture grow out of these dangerous superstitons. If not it is because they are conditioned (family, conformism, interest etc.). The rest are priests, kings etc. In this case it is just a question of power.lowshelf wrote:Gem, that is cheatingmyrnova wrote:It's not that difficult. If the ancients could identify all manner of astronomical events, I think they probably had the wherewithal to (a) count properly and (b) distinguish between celestial bodies and seasons.

Bullshit. Happiness is when you can eat every day and you feel you are not alone, because someone loves you and you are able to love and help the others. Then you die, as everything alive in this universe. End.

nah, anger is right when you need to obtain bread. People need bread, not holy men. Once you have bread, you can be happy, because you start feeling the power of love. End.
