Five browser locations instead of three.

Post by StompyJ » Sat Jul 30, 2005 3:45 pm

I know this has been requested many times, but with the inclusion of mp3 support and a dedicated 'library' from ableton, this is more needed then ever.

Let me give you an example

Browser1) Live's library
Browser2) Root MP3 Collection
Browser3) Root Sample CD location

Now, if I need to find the odd thing that doesn't fall under any of these categories, I have to move one of the existing browsers to somewhere else, import it, then move back to where I was before.

Even just one more browser to have as a browser that can be used for ad-hoc searches would be perfect. This wasn't an issue with me in Live4 cause I couldn't use my mp3s.

no longer needed. this is for you. you know who you are.

agreed. i don't use live for deejaying / playing back mp3s but i still have the library, the song / clip folder plus a sample folder where it'd be nice to set something like 2 roots, one for my huge one shot drum library and another for all the loops, vinyl sampled snippets and location recordings... that's four browser tabs already and i could probably find use for at least one more than that.

so five locations would definitely be enough for me. the other idea would be to have variable amount of locations (anything from 3 to 10 for example) that people could set but i guess most people would be happy with a fixed number that's a bit bigger than 3 and it would be a clearer solution.

yes - theres easily room for two more right there on the interface,
it means shortening down the scroll bar on the browser windon,
but thats a pretty small sacrifice

i dont use the library because of this, its too much of a pain to switch my default icons to it and back

5 locations would be sweet... then I could have one for drums, one for bass, one for vocal, one for melodic stuff and one for mp3s

yes, agreed.

how about if we could select in the default template or project settings how many broswer tabs to have? those who want five (or more?) can have more. those who want one, can have one (or none).

simple!

much better than 5, because you can bet that once there'll be 5, ppl will want 6 or 7

I'd go for 5 and add one each time there's a new version of live ;-)

I must support this - please let users decide how many hot folders to have. Thanks.

I wish also to use unused space for more browsers.

Furthermore I wish the path of one or two (special) browser(s) will be saved with it´s individual project.

and a 6th "playlist" browser would be very useful. perfect for dragging songs over from other places on you hd and creating a playlist on the fly. it wont actually make a new file, just link to it. i would love this for djing.

Agreed. Why put a limit on it?

because there's only so much space on the interface for new buttons. look at it.

theres easily room for two more below the ones we have now. any more than that, and suddenly theres no scroll bar left to scroll up and down the folders.
