If you want to be seen as a musician rather than someone who simply spins someone else's creativity, ditch the DJ prefix.

I listen to DJs.

I listen to, watch, and admire musicians.

Your choice.

Other DJ name alternatives

There's a guy who's been around for a long time called LTJ Bukem. Don't know his work, personally, but while I may be wrong I always assumed the LTJ stood for "Laptop Jockey." Also I've seen a few people use "EJ" for "Electronics Jockey".

(P.S. LTJ Bukem's given name is Daniel, and got the nickname Bukem a long time ago from friends who used to watch the TV show Hawaii Five-0...some of you in the US will know why...)

Why aren't they DJ So-and-so? Because they're talented enough to not need it.

If you're good enough, just use what's on your birth certificate!
Agreed. That's what I use. Montrealbreaks is just for the internet. I perform with my real name.

My girlfriend calls herself "DJ Demonic Chronic" however. She's an aspiring turntablist.

There's a guy who started playing here in Montreal with a DJ name I once thought of...

DJ Wannabe
.

I also thought DJ Groupie was a good one for a female.

I like "Meta DJ". Very fitting for a Live user. Whoever thought of that should use it.

There are a lot of good names that just suck with "DJ" added to the front. I think that Spankypants for instance is cool, but DJ Spankypants isn't. Same goes for Shitgobbler.

If I have to use a stage name, (I prefer my real name but I may not have a choice in the matter) then I'll be using:
Irrelevant Alias.
I think it sums up this whole naming thing quite well.

One topic area to be avoided when searching for that perfect DJ name--medical conditions.

DJ Dysentery
DJ Tooth Decay
DJ Piles
DJ Persistent, Hacking Cough

I would go for Biblical or Roman names either

DJ Samson
DJ Pilatus
DJ Horatio
DJ Chirst
DJ Jupiter
DJ Pluto
DJ Hades (granted this one is Greek)

Yeah... I'm pretty much deciding to veer away from the DJ prefix.

The question is, do I pick a "fun" name for the show for the hell of it and not give it much thought... or do I pick a more serious name for the show and stick with it???

Hell. Maybe I'll just use the old rock band name I spent years deciding on.

I don't think LTJ meant laptop although I don't know what it means. He's been doing and mixing Drum and Bass for a long while, in a "normal" way.

isn't CJ becoming common ? computer jockey
Quad 6600 Intel, AsusP5Q, 2Gb ram, XP sp3, Evolution MK361c & UC33e, Line6 UX8

another category to avoid: names of well-known people who might sue you.

DJ Martin Scorsese
DJ Regis Philbin
DJ Bob Hope (dead, I know, but his executors could pursue)
DJ Josh Groban
DJ Norman Mailer

..you get the idea

That sucks because DJ Dolly Parton has a nice ring to it.

I would like to add the now most unlike person on this forum in response to Adamjay quitting this forum. You know who you are. I will let other people say it for me.
Vote for Pedro.
