A lot of pros have jumped to Ableton from Logic

People like to treat DAWs like a religion so when someone says something against their DAW, they start holy wars. I always thought it was a bad move when a hardware company (Apple) acquires a software company. (see Tascam and Gigastudio) It's often regression instead of progression. PC users liked Logic but didn't think switching hardware was worth and also Logic as $1K app not too long after Apple took over.

Apple has turned into a bunch of thugs. When my MacBook Pro finally dies or becomes obsolete, I will never give Apple another dime. NONE of their software works as advertised. None of it. And they just discontinue things for no good reason (example: Waveburner- an easy to use CD authoring program that used to come with Logic-abandoned with no explanation).

Here’s something that makes no sense in Logic. You can sidechain from an audio track directly but you can’t from a MIDI track. If you want to sidechain from a MIDI track you must first send audio to a bus track and then sidechain from that track. There might be some technical chin stroker reason that is great but from a getting things done perspective it’s BS.

Don’t even get me started on effects plugins that also require MIDI input.

To Logics credit, Live's absolute strong point is audio routing and the ease of MIDI routing.
It takes Max For Live to get Ableton as crazy MIDI wise as Logic though, I had a full fledged old school CV style sequencer in the Environment in Logic when I used it, and hardware all mapped out etc.

The routing in Live is a huge strong point, most DAWs have something weird going on that way, the way Logic treats MIDI with virtual instruments and FX is odd, DP simply treats them as hardware. DP has no way to restrict MIDI notes to a zone, so you can't set up in DP split keyboards with two or more instruments directly, a third party must be involved. Live does no SysEx, which for most of you is OK, but makes storing hardware sounds directly in Live impossible. There's probably some way to do it in M4L but it then becomes convoluted like the rest...

That's the best description I've heard so far and exactly how I feel (I use Logic-for recording bands, Reason, Live, and FL). I love them all and hate them all. Awesome. I'm stealing that quote.

My needs are very basic. When I first started digital home recording I used all hardware with Cubase and Cubase was almost entirely just a line mixer. Even EQing was done on an external mixer. Then I started using Live at version 5 and it really opened my eyes to the possibilities of doing everything within the computer. Then Live got stale to me and I spent too much time dicking around in session view.

But then I switched to Logic and did a lot of head scratching in both workflow and terminology differences. Even after attempting to RTFM ,Googling, and YouTubing I gave up on a lot of things I just couldn’t find the answer for or in some cases I didn’t know how to phrase the question because I didn’t find anything even remotely close to what I was looking for. Sometimes I think Apple has a department in charge of erasing references on the internet to problems people are having with their software because I’m going “I’m the only person on the planet trying to figure this out? Really?”

A lot of "EDM" producers have the mindset that Ableton's sound engine is worse than Logic's.

I think this might have been true in earlier versions of Live, which is not the case anymore. Some of these producers are catching on and making the switch

I had a workshop/tutorial with some pro dj/producers recently, they call themselves DESERT DWELLERS, they all used Logic, however, during the sessions, I was told they "MAY " be switching to Live ,but use Live when Djing.. and in the same sentence, said that LOGIC sounds better, perhaps Live is starting to be comparable to Logics quality.. anyways, interesting input from some elite EDM producers who have been around for a long time...
