Reason can't use the Digi core audio drivers. This is a known issue. It's supposed to be fixed in Reason 2.5 and ProTools 6.1 (due in June)
I have Live 2.03, Reason 2 and Mbox on a iMac DV. The latest drivers from digi and I can run Live thru the mbox with Reason rewired to Live. Too many tracks and the playback stutters though. But this may be my low powered iMac. Also I believe you need to update Pro Tools LE to 6.01 to use the core drivers EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT using Pro Tools. The digi forum has some threads about this.
Cheers,
Jamie

Core Audio

Post by Gump152 » Sun May 04, 2003 1:18 pm

Allright! This is it. Someone on the Digidesign page figured it out. I had to remove the DIOOSXMIDIDriver.plugin in my system. It's located at /Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers.

works like a charm now.

thanks to you Alex for helping out

ok. i heard it was possible. am i mistaken. i'm not totally mac-ignorant... i just tried what was listed above(thanks!), but still no luck. can somebody let me know the correct order of opening the apps? for some reason(no pun) (probably a digi problem...) if i open PT first then it is not available for an audio output option in the preferences of live. if i open live first and set up audio out to PT hardware then i cannot open Protools. has this been resolved? i was under the impression all this worked together.

Reason, Live core Audio drivers 1.2 MBox

Post by Donmr » Sun May 11, 2003 12:12 am

Same here and a lot of other people are having this problem. Reason 2.5 and Live! don't work with the latest core audio drivers v1.2 and MBox (and other digidesign hardware as far as i know) However iTunes and Quicktime are outputing fine through Mbox with the same. Earlier versions of th core audio driver worked with live but were extremely buggy and not worth the trouble.
According to the digi site core audio drivers v 1.2 are supposed to work with Reason 2.5. They clearly don't.

Hi Donmr,

so far the Digidesign CoreAudio driver version 1.2 worked on my Mac. Please explain me what you mean with don't work.
Is not possible to select the Mbox in the Live's audio preferences?

Alex

Reason 2.5 and Ableton Live! don't reliably work with the new core audio drivers v1.2 as advertised. However, iTunes 4 and Quicktime seems to work just fine. In the Audio MIDI Setup in OSX with the MBox selected you get a choice between 44.1k and 48k at 32bit!?!?!? There is no choice other than internal sound output in the audio prefs menu in Live and Reason.
Older versions of core audio driver worked at least with Live! but were too buggy to use. if anyone has any idea how to get Reason 2.5 and/or Live! working with the new CA 1.2 drivers please let us know!
Thanks
Don

Hi Don,

so far I just can say that I have no problems with Digis CoreAudio driver 1.2 and the MBox. I also had to install ProTools additionally but that's all.

Alex

Hi Alex,
yes, it's a strange problem. i've tried many things but nothing works. iTunes and Quicktime work fine but Live and Reason don't see the mbox. I'm going to try upgrading to 10.2.6 and see if this makes a difference.
meanwhile if you think of anything....
cheers,

MBox,Unity Session Core Audio Problem!!!!!!!!

Post by donmr » Mon May 19, 2003 10:51 am

t seems that, as the topic states, core audio drivers 1.2 and Unity session, the demo included, are not happy together.
Several systems with the MBox have confirmed this. Don't know about other digi systems.
If you have trouble with core audio drivers, MBox and have installed Unity Session or the demo, try the following...
and thanks again to Adam on the propeller heads board for discovering this bug!...

- remove _all_ the UNITY files from LIBRARY/CFM SUPPORT then Reason should recognize the MBOX.

however, you still might get that goofy thing in audio MIDI setup where the MBox is shown to have 1 chaqnnel @ 32 bit. No idea how to get rid of this but all the audio seems to work despite it
