Download speed is mindnumbingly slow, do you have an alternative site for this perhaps? Maybe filefront, or some such nonsense?mood wrote:Heres the link to my July mix.

warping a tip for newbies

I am going to be honest about your mix, the 12 hours it took to download wasn't worth it, this mix, just like its title is very forgettable. I have worked with a few promoters here in asia and I have heard many demo cd's and live sets of this quality, and heck, probably even made/played a few of my own. Its not so much a matter that you don't have skills as; there are one million people just like you, many of which do it better.
That is not to say you do not have some potential, but this mix to me is very flat and boring, all the cliche' that has made people forget house even existed is in this set. Arpeggiated two chord songs, predictable filter sweeps, plodding tracks that never seem to end.
Technically excellent not once do I hear a beat drop, but it just lacks some originallity, some flavor that I haven't tasted before. This mix is not what I would define as progress, you simply stay in the general realm of boring the whole way through. There is one track I liked twoards the end had some nice strings; I say, you might be onto something with tracks like that, if someone hasn't already nicked that style of music and called it "Progessive soundtrack house"
Anyway, not trying to be hard on you, just want to give you a realistic opinion. And for what it's worth; that all it is, an opinion.

The track you like is probably groovemates oosh - remix which is bordering on funky house which half the brain dead musically uneducated population listen to these days. I put it on the cd cause it was a nice track to drop after building. Anyway thanks for your opinion seth i realise that there is a couple of tracks towards the end where it plods but way out west - don't forget me makes up for it. I'm gonna do the same mix now using ableton should have it finished soon ill put it up when done.

i think that a little harsh. the tracklisting to me looks more of a warm up. you dont put your ten best bangers on a prog mix. then it just doesnt 'progress'. i dont know what your expecting to hear on each mix you listen to. something new, something different, some new genre busting sonic masterpiece. it sounds like you expect every cd you listen to has to be a unique experience. it prog house cd, what do you expect to hear? the guy is doing what he loves. not what you love. if i play out and people dont like it tough - you get over it. you dont change your style because of it. if you only played what people wanted to hear. nothing would ever move forward. you have to do what you want and hopefully someone will connect with it.

i'm into prog and breaks. have been for about 10 - 15 years ever since i heard leftfields 'song for life' and dr atomic 'schudelfloss'. personally i like anything thats lush with a good groove to it.
i've listened to the mix and i like it. its more driving than i thought it would be after seeing the tracklisting with jono fernandez and habersham on there, but its good.
end of the day do what you want. the originality thing is a cliche. everyone can be original. 10 djs can be given 10 records and you'll get 10 different sets - which one is the most original? originality comes from perception. if i did a jazz mix it can go two ways 1. totally crap? or 2. an unbelievable fusion with total disregard for convention? either way i dont have a fuckin clue about jazz. it can go either way depending on whos listening. so at the end of the day who gives a shit.
i'm going to upload a mix tonight - it should be done by tomorrow morning give it a listen if you like. its the first mix i've done in ableton so it not to flashy, but most of the tracks have been edited in some way to keep the flow going. it has a bit of a deeper edge to it than normal. i've posted it earlier this month and had some good feedback from it. i've made the file size smaller to speed up the download.

in the mid Eighties, and then it came here via Ibiza, and hit London and Manchester, and Acid House was born.I was lucky enough to go to the illegal/legal underground party's,massive rave's etc, that have revolutionized music, clubbing and the seemless countless musical genre's of House Music we now have.
This is all fantastic and the music at the moment that is currently around in all styles,is of a really high standard if you look for the really cool origanal underground stuff. Music production has come a long way.
Real House music will always shine as any true House head would know,be it the West coast sound in the states, the classic US House style, and at the moment i'm loving the whole German Electronic sound, with labels like Pokerflat, artist's like Trentmoller and so on,i could go on an on.
I also love music right across the board in ( dare i say it!) Dance music,
I am into Hip Hop,intelligent drum n Bass, origanal soul music,Electro,Classic disco, rare funk, crate digging in dusty old record shops, hunting for those new samples, from obscure music.
Just enjoy the music it's come along way since the late seventies,DJ Culture is still their, and with software like Live it's taking it all further still.
House Music all night long....

right on.
i dont just listen to house - prog or otherwise. i dont just listen to electronic music. i like everything from classic soul to nine inch nails. good music will out. but house music is where i'm at when it comes to producing and dancing. house is about the groove - not throwing down an original idea every 8 bars. i like er... 'progressive' house because it sits in the middle. you can have the groove and the energy if you want. at the end of the day its just house.

Yep at the end of the day it is just house. But what u say nuper is right prog gives u that flexibility.
The word 'progressive' has become such a dirty word! In future i think i'll just say house and leave others to place it!
I just caught the end of the whole rave scene was a bit young but went to Dreamscape etc then started going to Karanga a house night in Weston Super Mare/Bath! I guess thats where it all started for me. Then started goin to creation in Bristol and carried on going to various free parties around the south west. I wish i could remember what set it all off for me i used to swap all the dance planet tapes in school and listen to fusion and all that although i think it was listening to radio 1 one night and hereing seb or oaky back in about 96 that really got me into the house sound? probably oakenfold i always liked his sets back in the day! Then moved to Liverpool to study dance music production! Built a studio.
Yea i'm well into my drum and bass as well being a bristol lad! Pity theres hardly any nights here all funky and scouse house! Don't mind abit of that occasionly either only cause all the girls where nothin where its playin!!
