I wouldn't really call it chilling out, he was becoming a socialist in his last year, which is possibly partly why he was shot. He was becoming even more dangerous to the system and the rotten NOI.

Ok, chilled out is maybe not the right term, I'm sure he never lost his passion. But he put aside his hate and in doing so became more relevant to many more people and therefore more of a threat to the system.

And this is my problem with many of these threads. When people draw attention to bad things in the world, you raise awareness. If you cross the line into attacking a culture, you make people defensive. This has the opposite effect. Surely the last thing we want Americans to think is that the world hates their way of life. In fact, wasn't that what the bush administration used to say to drum up support for war?

Btw, I went off on one at myrnova in response to the same thing as forge. He explained it pretty well, and I considered it offensive enough to warrant a personal attack. Which I very rarely do. Some things just need to be opposed.

I just spent a day in the park with a bunch of Italians (and French, Brazilians, Spanish, etc, etc,). A few of them just got back from visiting the states. They said everyone they met was really nice and very chilled out. Maybe they were brainwashed too, but they were all lovely people.

Maybe being brainwashed into being a nice person isn't so bad?

What a stupid consideration... I guess if you come here in Italy, you'll find everything beautiful, too. Even if it is a shit, actually (mafia, church, pollution, racism, crimes, corruption etc.). Every tourist wants to be happy in the place he goes to. Even tourists in Greece, Egypt or Kenya (where people die for hunger) come back from there and claim "wow, everything was wonderful"...
