I first read the book which reads like a screen play as it is quotes back and forth... the documentary is kind of dry, but the content is really good if you're interested in this sort of thing.

What bothers me in adult life is there is no hard evidence that its all shit. No matter how ignorant or stupid this sounds It would be nice to have some piece of mind knowing that mad god isnt going to throw everyone into a fire and torture them.

The problem there is you're trying to prove a negative, to prove something doesn't exist. The even bigger problem is that what people consider evidence of God is subject to what they believe "evidence" to be in the first place. A devout Christian will tell you that evidence of God is all around us in all of the miracles of life and beauty in nature all around us.

When you ask why there's so much death and ugliness in the world they usually stumble around with some "well if God made it like heaven then there would be nothing to look forward to" kind of stuff.

I grew up in the church so although I don't believe in anything I am also not as brutally rude about it as the atheists you see out there. I'm agnostic really. I figure the fact that a human could even come up with the idea of God means there might be a chance it could exist in some dimension we have no knowledge of. There's certainly no physical proof of it in this dimension (again, "proof" to me is more than the fact that we are alive, but things we can measure with instruments [not Push]).

There's being grounded in reality, and there's being grounded in reality to the point of having no imagination.

Now the idea of an angry God is surely pure human contraption used to steer human behavior.

Funny that, I feel the opposite. I think if there's anything that even remotely fits our idea of God, it would have to be utterly beyond our comprehension.

For anyone to claim they know God's will seems ridiculous.

I'm atheist, with only the most miniscule sliver of doubt (which I have to accept, if I'm being scientific).

I try not to shit on peoples beliefs though. Unless they are looking for a fight over it. Eg. Someone tells me their religion makes them fundamentally a better person than me, and I'm prepared to tear into what they think they know.
