I had a very active childhood, as my dad was a scoutmaster and keen hillwalker. I did cross country running, hill walking, climbing and swimming etc. When I left university I lived in a shared house, and my landlord started a national adventure sports club called Spice. I did parachute jumps and windsurfing etc.

The first time I had this shoulder problem was when I was in my mid 20s. My girlfriend was younger, still in her teens, and we did a lot of hiking/backpacking (wild camping, usually high) and other stuff like that. When my arm got better I did rock climbing for about 10 years, and some kyaking. I also did circuit training every week with my girlfriend and various mates. I went on a canoeing holiday to the Ardeche. After that there was a gang of us that did walking/climbing/kyaking most weekends.

Later I worked in the building industry as a tiler for 13 years.

My brother and sister both have the same problem. My brother just finished 3 months trekking through the Andes. He has a personal trainer. My sister goes to the gym several times a week.

I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, and eat a low calorie vegetarian diet.

Sorry to hear that. Well, looks like you got a good use out of it though. Maybe some medical advancements or shrub smoking could make it better?

Funken, all jokes and whatnot aside... can't you do some light exercise for it? Trimming the hedges seems like a good start. What about working it with a light dumbbell or something?

I've had knee surgeries on both legs... had to have a broken chunk of knee cap removed from one of em... so I get the physical discomfort thing, but the best thing I've found to help diminish the pain is exercising and strengthening the muscles. hiking up hills and riding a bike has worked wonders for me... They still ache but I'm able to run again and do a lot more after a few years of reconditioning. getting caught in the rut caused by the pain only aggravated it and made things worse in the long run. I had to turn that around 180 dergrees and embrace some pain to make the gains needed to rise above it...
